if I were the invaders attacking arefu, I'd bomb the supporting pillars, clean, no casualties, and arefu goes down to the ground crumbling.

The point of invading is to gather loot or slaves, why would you bomb the supporting pillars? You'd destroy everything, and unless you were just a roaming psychopath (which there probably are,) there'd be no point to doing that. Then again, you might be just such a person
