Film based on FALLOUT

First time out of the vault
Here I want to representate you a clip made by The Life After Team. At first it was a part of an unfinished film – the extended version of “The Day”. It had to be a 45-60 minutes film with several trajectories and about 50 actors in a shot. The shooting took place in 2006 year. But there were only 2 attempts to shoot the film and then the project failed. So that not to lose the studio-shot material I decided to make this clip.

But the team doesn’t want to give up. We have shot the beginning of the film in February this year: Download from here.

The message of the clip:

Let’s imagine that there are only 2 main ideologies
The first is when a person is anxious about the future. The second is when a person is not worried but his wishes and thus degrades. The first part of the clip explains that the second type of ideology is dominating (as far as an official position). And what is more it is flourishing fast [the raider’s attack and the raider’s devastation of the village]. The second part expresses an idea that we must start from the junior levels. That means that we have to start from ourselves [An episode where the raider let the prisoner go]. The girl carring the pig’s head personalizes a generation that is displeased with the existing situation. This episode is an attempt to point out a dangerous tendency.

Download ~30Mb DivX5.2.1

In April 2006 the team also has shot a film based on a Fallout game. You can soon download it with English subtitles.

Take the details from the team’s site here.
Unfortunately it supports only a Russian version now.

PS The clip is not in good quality because it was shot with the analogue camera

The first clip with the man and the woman seemed to be interesting, even though I didn't understand a word of it. I kinda liked it, even though the music didn't fit in that well. Oh well, I'm waiting some English subtitles.

The second one with raiders and stuff was kinda crappy. The song was annoying and the fighting was not very believable.

The clip is not in good quality because it was shot with the analogue camera
What the hey..? If you shoot with analog film camera on an actual film, the result is mostly superior to DV. Erm... Do you mean hand-held DV camera?

our first short movie with english subtitles is now avaible

At last!!! We've just finished translating our first short-movie.

Now it is avaible to downloading here.

Enjoy!!!

Hey, don't knock it: Mad Nation has been going three years now and we ain't done yet. OP: I would comment on your movie, but the above link doesn't seem to work. Says something about being removed for copy-write infringement?

Also: Analog Hi8, or digital8 for that matter, can be made to look like crummy 16mm film. That's why I like it: I can make it look like old film noir or 70's B-movies really easily. Sure it's crap compared to good-condition film or HD video, but it works for the gritty look pretty well, so I figure a post-nuclear movie would only benefit from it.

Done.

Anyway YouTube says the video is being processing, so it could be unaviable for sometime.

Hmm... they said that video length is too long, sorry

But they accepted the clip, not so good news, but its better than nothing :)

I've uploaded The Day to rutube. Enjoy :)

The first vid is no longer available. The second one is and this is my verdict:

Seriously, man: I want those 3:48 of my life back.

I dunno, I don't think I'd go anywhere near that far.

The Good:
Your costumes were pretty cool, and the camera work is sloppy but not too bad so it works for this kind of piece. Also, you're editing is alright. The fighting is pretty good too, again for a beginner's level production. You had a pretty big cast to work with, which deserves mention since unless you have money to pay them that's always difficult to come by.

The Bad:
The music is overpowering and makes it feel like a music video. Also, the grainy black and white shots of the shoe buckle or whatever the fuck it was are worthless because you can't tell what the fuck you're looking at and they serve no purpose: ditch them outright, don't bother trying to explain them.

The Ugly:
The lack of a direct narrative structure makes it drag a lot: you really feel the length and that's never good if it can't hold your interest. If this is supposed to be a trailer, it has to give us some information at least as to what the movie is going to be like, preferably what it's about. If it's just a clip, then when in a larger movie it will drag like fuck as a scene. The rule I like to go by is that for every minute of screen time it should feel like thirty seconds: by this rule, you need to cut out at least a third, more likely half of what you've got and still give the same information. Perfect example, have only one or two shots rather than several of the gang sitting around eating.
