You can't understand?
Well think about it this way.
We like TB for the same reason you like REAL-TIME - only the opposite.
You, as u said, probably like the Real time - (or the AS-IF Continuous-Turn-Based as it should be called) - BECAUSE you don't have to wait - and if Fallout was that way you could "click your game away" by slaughtering the enemies with automatic weapons while having your NPCs watching ur back and taking bullets for you - OR dying in the process and loading the most recent saved game.
Fallout was TB.
That meant that the game is SLOW by nature. It's not about FINISHING IT - but about enjoying playing it...
somewhat like CHESS.
To remind you - this is an RPG - and u are obviously (unless I'm mistaken) unexperienced or unfamiliar with that genere - ESPECIALLY outside of the computer gaming area.
In reality - RPGs (not Computer RPGs) are MUCH SLOWER and require players to REALLY sit down, plan, consider, discuss, decide, and roll the dice.
Turn Based CRPGs are a nice mutation of the RPG genere- by being FASTER than the original, yet maintaining a NON-REAL-TIME atmoshpere of TACTICS, OPTIONS AND FUN.
TB is for people who don't care what's the speed of the game - as long as it's not FAST and most important - not REAL-TIME.
In real time there is no place for IN-BATTLE-TACTICS.
You can PLAN your assault and build the squad structure BEFORE you face the enemy - but when they spot you - like in real life (well, almost) - There's no way back. You must act FAST and the amount of OPTIONS and choices you can make is MINIMAL.
BTW - it's kind of ironic that a game titled TACTICS has a REALTIME combat system, when TACTICS *should* imply PLANS, THOUGHT, STRATEGY, SLOW PACE.
ALTHOUGH some real time tactic games HAVE BEEN MADE, which were good - and the best example for that is COMMANDOS.
In commandos - THOUGH, you control only THREE PEOPLE, and the whole battle system and battle control is different - to adjust itself to the game.
The MAPS there are also planned so that there are always many ways to pass each location - so that there are never too many snipers there, not too many people on guard, not to many people on patrol, the patrol rate is so and so....
and so on...
All this to enable you - with a growing level of difficulty - to finish the game.
Fallout was about ONE GUY, but it was STILL turn based , and not only because it's more fun or better to play RPGs in TB - it's also MORE LOGICAL and wise to do so, since YOU ARE after all one person against the whole WORLD (with the little help of some fun NPCs) - and in REAL TIME (and in REAL LIFE) it was impossible to succeed.
You therefore, DON'T LIKE TO make choices in battle, to decide, to act, to run away or to change position with the TIME and action points to do so...
YOU LIKE to see ACTION, AND NOW! you don't want to wait, you don't want to spend too much time on anything besides FOR BATTLE...besides for YOUR CONTROL...besides for YOUR ACTIONS.
