GSC Game World has released the first patch, version 1.0001, for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The patch addresses over sixty minor issues and crashes in both the single and multiplayer game. A few examples of things that have been fixed:
10. The host is able to pause the game during an MP game.
13. The user can speed up time with the * key on the numpad in SP
20. Players will take no fall damage when friendly fire is set to 0 on the server.
21. The player dies when trying to exit out of the skin menu back into gameplay.
53. Users are able to pick up an opponent's grenade after it has been thrown and then use it themselves.
The patch comes in two versions, one for the U.S. release, and the other for all other releases. Unfortunately, this patch isn't compatible with save games from the unpatched game.

Thanks to Serifan for pointing out this release on our forums.

I just bought it today. Thanks for letting me know about the patch before I even started playing.

Hmm... after checking the forums at Oblivion Lost (this thread), it seems the patch does quite a bit more than the change logs suggest. It seems trading and performance both have been improved. Also, it looks like this is a pretty pain-free patch, only a few cases where it causes problems.
 • Traders seem generally more useful as they now sell much more in way of supplies, and prices have gone up, making money more important.
 • Nearly everyone who has installed the patch has noted that their game performance is now smoother.
 • Weapon damage to NPCs has been increased, and armor now degrades.
 • NPCs are now less likely to know your exactly location, and will have to look for you more. Sneaking also seems more effective now.
The only issue I've heard numerous complaints about that hasn't been fixed is the spawning of NPCs.

I'm impressed, it seems the developers are on the ball.

The stuff related to trading sounds great. Hopefully it will make it more worthwhile to spend money. Still waiting for NPC spawning adjustments though. It really kills the game for me in certain places, especially when they respawn at level changes. Nothing like going back to an older level, only to have your face blasted off once the game finishes loading.

Also, I started over and just played the first mission you get. I'm not sure if they adjusted 'drop rates' on the enemies, but I didn't get nearly as much stuff from their bodies this time around (after the patch) as the first two times I did the mission. Only one medkit for example, which I used on a STALKER that had been wounded in the fight.

Some people are worried that about the fact that armor degrades now. Since armor is a pretty rare find in the Zone, it might be hard to acquire new sets once they wear out. Hopefully they made it so that the traders sell more 'high end' armors as well.

I wonder if they fixed the "family rifle" quest you get from a stalker in the bar.

I never found it anywhere near where the minimap icon shows it should be, and looked pretty much everywhere on the map. Hint?

It's where the icon says it is. So the X and the Y coordinates are correct. Have you tried adjusting your Z coordinates?

SPOILER
It's in the tunnel that you enter near the helicopter. There's also another awesome weapon there.

From what I've read, a number of the stash markers are screwed up (they will be in the wrong place or the stash won't be there, among other things). If the quest marker is handled in a similar way, it might also be bugged.

Haven't heard anything about if they have fixed this specific case or stash markers in general.

Already installed the patch and I can note a few changes:

- Overall detail has increased (although slightly and probably unoticeable to some, its there.)
- Armor degrades and loses it's protection value (Very cool!)
- NPC Traders randomly generate their inventory via enter/exit of their cell. For example, you could walk in to find X merchant selling a Stalker suit for $60,000; walk out and back in and he's got Merc Armor for $24,000. I have had the beginning trader offer me a Stalker suit, Bandit Suit, and Merc Suit in trade before when I only had like $2,000.
- AI Tweaks (The AI no longer stands in place when you throw a grenade into a crowd of grunts.)

There's many other subtle changes, but I'd highly recommend you patch Stalker before playing it the first time. :D

*edit: armor value incorrections

No, Triple D is right, Wooz just isn't finding it. I had the same problem and it took me forever to find that damn thing. My suggestion is to turn your light on.

There, found it. For some reason, the PDA thing focused on a stash in the middle of some construction work wagons instead of the place it really is.

Spoiler: Also, a flying electrical thingy that throws stuff at me appeared, just like the one in the X18 lab.

running the new patch (decided to restart anyways, i failed too many quests)

now i have no flashlight? L doesn't work, and the flashlight is bound to it.

i'm not sure i'll like my armor decaying (since i played over half the game with the same armor in my last playthrough).

anyone having problem with the Securom (on the LEGAL version)? it's being a pain in the ass on my Benq dvd-writer...

I've had no securom problems.

Don't mind degrading armor much, either. At least it's making me try to avoid getting hit instead of just spamming the medkit key.

Anybody know if those performance tweaks for people who couldn't run dynamic lighting still work after the patch? I was thinking about giving it a go.

It still seemed to work for me. I would suggest giving it a try, I'm not normally big on the shiniest graphics, but the lighting in this game does add quite a bit to the atmosphere. It's very well done.

what the hell .. !? got the game yesterday played it up to **spoiler?** agroprom underground with not CTDs or freezes ... now that i've patched it the computer freezes every 20 mins or so for good when i play it !

other than that they balanced out the costs of things as well as how vendors work .. ammo is more rare .. it ads to the survival feel ...i'm playing it on veteran and love how difficult it is (alltho sometimes it gets a bit stupid) THE AI IS WONDERFULL ! :)

The reason why you don't have securom problems is that the US version of the game has no cd protection. The European version has securom, and the Eastern Europe version has Starforce (bleh).
