Is it just me or does everything look really flat?
Yeah there is something looks odd in that picture, I thought it was the scale of buildings a lot of reused windows in one small picture.
Wow. Not only do the graphics look bad it's like they didn't even put any effort into the environments really.
Why dialog wheels are so popular? Only game i've saw that thing actualy add something was Deus Ex. I can understand binding 4 keys to the options making easy to adjust, but why in hell not allow the player see what his character is going to say and in what context?! Why, WHY!?
This argument has been used lots of times here on the forum.
And now that they finally deliver a better FPS experience people are hating on it. Pathetic.
Also it's funny how people here only pick out the negative things the Spanish guy has to say.
When he says dialogue is shit everyone believes him. When he says that Perk system is an improvement and works awesome nobody here believes him.
People just want to hear what they already believe.
Think rather of the surgeon who repairs your eye with a tongue transplant. They were never supposed to put that crap in the game in the first place ~let alone spend time improving it.
Apparently people liked it a lot in Mass Effect. Never played that game so can't judge.
In the Witcher it works really well.
So the dialogue wheel can be good if good implemented...
That's another discussion.
But Fallout is a FPS RPG since 3, accept it. And when you accept it you can accept that it is good to improve thos mechanics.
About the dialogue
To me it's a big step backwards. NPC's take a long time to start the conversation (when you get to a place and try to talk to an NPC they do it very calmly). The dialog options are dissapointing (X button is to advance the conversation, the O is either sarcastic or "No" option most of the time, the square button is for a very negative/jerk response and the triangle button is always a question about the topic) and badly worded (in F3, Oblivion, Skyrim or NV there weren't misunderstantings, every line matched what your character was going to say, now they give you a small "description" and then it doesn't match with what the character actually says). The dialog wheel tries to be similar to Mass Effect but fails. This is the only evident step backwards at least for me.
About dialogue consequences
In a mission someone had to interview me and the 4 options I had were really lacking, and some of them had little or nothing to do, when a mission depends on what you say and how you say doesn't work as you'd expect it's a bit frustrating, when in previous games you could spend quite a while asking and learning about groups, cities, the war and more (There were questions that opened more dialogue options) In this one, most of the time there's just ONE question for character and not much more, and as for the 4 options of dialogue when something is proposed to us or they talk to us about a mission, two of the options are 90% of the gime " no " or " not now" giving the exact same result, and, for example, I've just finished another mission in which a character told me to find someone else who disapperead following the trace of X character, in which the only option I had was asking about that X person" but I've made a mistake and pressed " accept " and then I didn't had a change to talk again to that person and ask about X person.
Three new perks
Strength 10: Pain Train - Choo, choo! All aboard! If you're wearing a power armor, sprint towards enemies to hurt them and make them lose balance (robots and huge enemies won't lose balance).
Perception 7: Reflector - You're like a mirror! Get instant +10 resistance to energy.
Intelligence 9: Nuclear physicist - You learned how to divide the atom... and how to dominate it. Radiation weapons cause 50% more damage and fusion cores last 25% longer.
Endurance 9: Ghoul - Sure, you're still human ... on the outside! Now regenerate lost health with radiation.
About Diamond City
The city is like a megaton but with more color and more alive. No major differences in size or density but it seems prettier and better distributed. Piper I have not done missions to engage these dialogues
He just played a quest which was much better than most he had played before, especially pacing-wise, and he did in fact find a way to solve it diplomatically without resorting to violence.
Dialogue options with which you can talk yourself out of situations are colored orange/red/perhaps more, possibly depending on likelihood of success.
The theft system is much more akin to Skyrim than previous Fallouts and seems to be fairly improved upon with more extensive perks covering it.
There are some immortal/essential characters but they are very few and far in between, generally restricted to vital quest givers.
Weapons and armor no longer degrade, though this doesn't seem to be as major a deal as one may think.
Survival mode does not come with fatigue/thirst/hunger like Hardcore mode in NV.
So far there have only been two major factions and they are much more simplistic (sadly). Think BoS/Enclave in Fallout 3, not NCR/House/Legion/etc. in NV.
One of the best parts about the game is the variety and size of the various different places you can explore, there is a massive amount of locations with unique designs, enemies, quests, etc. In all the time he has played he has not even entered the southern half of the map. As usual this is Bethesda's greatest strength and probably the reason why this game will shine above all else.
There are some minor differences in dialogue and pacing between male and female, especially at the beginning.
At least in one mission that could solve both "by force" and by diplomatically speaking. So it seems that if there will be relevant missions that can be resolved in various and very different ways. Having more charisma provides more information and new options.
Lady Killer / Black Widow, requires level 2 charisma and both have several levels.
Edit: Sorry for this mess of a post it's mostly copy&paste from here and there.
We didnt have any evidence on the state of dialogues other than a few lines in the official trailer. We have plenty of proofs for new Perk and SPECIAL system.
But Im not gonna write about the FPS mechanics since you will just dismiss what I write and keep on parroting the same thing.
EDIT: Also Fallout 3 lacked on rpg side, thats why older fans of the series criticize 3 while actually liking New Vegas even with its faults(which were mostly caused by engine limitations and deadline they had to meet).
Because we have clear proof that the perk system is fucking shite. Most people here can judge stuff on their own. Great.
Also the argument is basically "You can't criticize something if you don't like it" which is complete and utter fucking BULLSHIT
Get this through your head: People are complaining about the fucking FPS "experience" because IT'S BAD. Whether that's true or not I'm not gonna take part in but just know that they're not complaining about it FOR NOTHING.
And when the person who is leaking shit and plays the game says the FPS is NOT BAD anymore these same people complain again.
Not going to happen. They will forever be like the new grounds-keeper who destroys a monument that they didn't realize was one, having assumed it an eye-sore ~but it had been the reason to visit the grounds.
FO4 might be fun trying to fix with the GECK; correct all of their nonsense. (A pipe dream perhaps; but fun just the same.)
** An FPS improvement, would have been to acquire SuperHot, and make that the FPS combat. https://youtu.be/xVG8JCoLEjE?t=48s
About the dialogue wheel: If there's a limit to how many options you have in a dialogue system and if there happens to be an option that the player can't say it's ALWAYS bad. It doesn't matter if the limit is 5 or 3. It's terrible. Period.
You can't put every user here into one tidy little box and say we all think the same. Some still want turn based. Some are fine with the new FPS Fallout, some of them aren't. Some like New Vegas, but hate Fallout 3. Some like all of them. Some like only Fallout 1 and nothing else. You only know NMA by reputation not by the users.
They have removed skills and made the game closer to a FPS, so it is less of a RPG. If they just improved the combat but kept more RPG elements more people would be happy here. We believe the dialog is shit because it is. There is no fucking way the dialog will better than any of their other games. The Perk system is not an improvement, if you think it is you are sorely mistaken. Did you like the system in Skyrim?
It's bad [IMO] when an RPG has to show off... to hint at other content by actually showing locked speech options, instead of only showing what options are viable for that PC.
Why are we to believe this person who says that the perk system is good when it very obviously ISN'T? I mean we haven't played it and there's maybe a chance BGS have pulled some shit on us but what are the odds of that? He even said "it's a shame but you can not access them without perks" which sounds pretty stupid. All he said about the gunplay was that it FELT good and that, thankfully, the AI is better. That's just two small things.. He also said that the settlements are a good thing. Why are we to believe him ANYWAYS?
Also considering the fact that we haven't really seen a whole lot of the gameplay, shooting, etc. He also seems to imply that VATS is pretty much useless which can't possibly be a good thing, right?
People seem to believe him when he is negative. So why not when he is positive.
But I think that nobody here will be convinced by my opinion so I am off to do something more productive.
When I look at it now, it seems like everything is reused a couple of times. The white wall with a window is copied 4 times, every single square on the ground is exactly identical with the other ones, even with the same individual bricks missing. Those little "roofs" above windows seem to be all exactly the same too.
BECAUSE WE KNEW THE DIALOGUE IS BAD. We didn't believe, WE KNEW. Are you starting to get what I'm saying now??
