Why the hell did you choose the Marines? You should of joined the Army with an Airborne Infantry contract. Its better than being a human shield.
Ok, so let me get this straight. You think because you are a little green man falling out of the sky really slow that when you hit the ground you are less likely to get hit by enemy fire because you took that nice long slow decent? Yes, the Marines that landed amphibiously are getting pelted because they came out of a landing craft and you arrived safer because you fell out of a large C-130 that was traveling at a slow speed 300ft above the ground.
Both Marines and soldiers are just as prone to getting hit once they are on the ground, only difference is it comes down to discipline and thats where I belive the Marines have a huge advantage.
You do know that the Army is all about numbers and less about the individualized training of the Infantrymen, right?
And to let you in on a little secret I was enlisted in the Army with an option 40 contract. AB Infantry with R.I.P....
Lets take a minute to think about AB. Airborne soldiers were a good idea, I mean a great idea, but I think the time where large numbers are used has past.
These are my thoughts on AB Troops
Enemy has Radar
Army has nice large C-130
Enemy notices nice large C-130 as a nice big green blip on the screen
Army drops a large number of little green men out of nice large C-130 that shows up as that nice big green blip on screen
Enemy notices hundreds of nice tiny green men falling from sky
Enemy makes holes in the little green mens chutes
Little green men cry
For SpecOps AB is a good thing, I don't think its a good thing anymore for large units to use.
On a side note everyone and there mother in the Army is AB qualified, even the guy with no legs....
If you really consider going infantry the Marines is the way to go for a number of reasons.
1st) A large amount of kids that I have meet over the years join the Army to hope that one day they can be a crazy cool Ranger or an SF Op or maybe even a Doorkicker, but in reality most never make it past R.I.P..
SO with that in mind, what happens when you fail your obligations? You're just a regular combat soldier in the Army with minimal infantry training as compared to the training that a Combat Marine would get.
2nd) If you happen to be one of those guys that has joined the Army to try and earn that TAB the Corps offer something a bit better in my mind and thats.....Recon. Yes, Marine Recon and Force Recon may not be SOCOM, but they train with the best and train the best. Plus the Marine Corps is supposed to be forming a SOCOM Unit as we speak which is composed of mostly Force Recon Marines.
3rd) Now if you are one of those guys that enlisted to go Ranger or Recon or whatever, if you happen to fail Recon School in the Corps, you have failed your obligations to the Corps, but the punishment isn't as bad as that in the Army. By this I mean you would cycle back to the fleet and your regular unit and still be much better trained then a regular Combat Soldier(Leg).
Don't not take all this to the heart 100%, because you have to understand that this is how I feel. There is no way in hell that I would want to be a leg in the Army certainly when we are in combat as we speak.
I have a good friend that is in the 2nd Marine Division and got back from Iraq awhile ago and he is being sent back in Sept with me. Anyways he was telling me stories about how many undisciplined soldiers he saw while driving though cities. Telling me about soldier without brain buckets walking around with their weapons in the HUMVEE and many others.
OORAH!
