<blockquote>Happy New Year, everyone!

This is just a short update to tell you we’re still alive.

A couple of weeks ago we promised a big update with lots of content and good news to share. Unfortunately, delays happen, so we decided to post a short update now and reserve the good stuff for when it’s ready.

So, what happened at MR in the past 9 months?

We were working a lot on area and gameplay designs. As you may know, MR lost most of its documentation in a server fire in 2009, and this lack of specific designs was hampering our progress. As new people joined, we realized the need for detailed design documents, to make sure everyone was making the same game. We have since written several hundred pages of material, and we’re nearly finished. The bulk of the writing took place throughout 2012 and we believe we now have a solid idea of where we are in the development process.

The project has had its usual ups and downs. We experienced a number of personnel changes, with people both leaving and joining, and even old members re-joining the team, such as Slunk3AM, the author of several music pieces for MR, and Demostrike, who will help us out with scripting.
Many of our members had to deal with real life issues and this always reflects (usually negatively) on the regularity and pace of production. But even though some content may be delayed compared to our predictions and wishes, we’re still on track and have made good progress, as evidenced by our progress bars.

We are still recruiting – presently, we could especially use new mappers and as usual – writers. All we expect from recruits is dedication and regularity, coupled with some expertise in the things they’re going to do, such as knowledge of the Mapper tool and rudimentary level design skills for map builders and good grammar, spelling and style for writers. In return we can only offer the fun of creation, the conviviality of the team, and everlasting fame and glory when the mod is finished ;) To all interested, please drop by our forums and leave a message in the Recruitment section.

To wrap up this short update, let us share with you a glimpse into the town of Wendover. This location received a thorough re-design and is now being scripted. The video shows the first effects of this work, although do have in mind that it is work in progress and things will look better and more polished in the final game.

I'm considering applying for a writing position. I have plenty of free time, love Fallout with every fiber of my being, and have always wanted to help create a Fallout mod. I can contribute in quite a few ways in the writing department, whether it be dialog, proofreading, story ideas, and maybe even a few quest ideas. I came up with a New Vegas mod concept called Fallout: Motor City if you care to see some of my ideas, although it doesn't really show my writing style that much, as it was primarily a design doc of sorts. Not the full design doc mind you, a small portion of it. The thread isn't very tidy, so bear with the haphazard layout of the concept please. The forum in general isn't very user friendly and makes things harder than they need to be at times.

Is there an up to date demo I can download, so I can get the gist of the story, atmosphere, etc..? I take it the design docs would become available if I get the position, so I can know what I am working with?

Excellent work, very much looking forward to this even more than I already was.

That'd be super-cool :)

Sent you a PM about it.

I like the talking head

Who made the voice over?

Why not bring it to kickstarter to gather some money for whores and booze?

I know I'm not a regular poster in this forum and haven't accumulated any reputation, but I would really love to apply for the writer position.

I can send some of the scripts I have written and design ideas I've made. I mostly specify in dialogue, but I hope it's ok. My only experience in modding has been writing and making a couple of missions for OFP (Operation Flashpoint), so I know how hard is to write a mission/quest without railroading too much.

Brian, known around here as Cunningandvalor. He's a professional voice actor, as far as I know.

Because whores and booze would keep us from finishing this mother off 8-)

We don't require legendary reputation on NMA from our guys - our lead writer doesn't even have an account here, if I'm not mistaken. Log onto our forums and send me a PM with some examples of your work and we'll take it from there. I can't promise I'll reply tonight, but we won't leave you hanging. See you there! :)

I did the voice acting. :) More on its way.

You were awesome, really. That's professional level right there, hope you get a job in voice acting on the game industry, etc.

I used to help write for FMF back in the day, and I would definitely throw in some money if it helped you guys finish this faster. MR is the last hope for a true remake of Fallout 2!

Please consider it.

:)

EDIT: Also, others have pointed this out already, but great job on the voice acting. You nailed the voice of an empty-headed, blank-faced, dead-eyed religious cunt leader completely out of his mind. Kudos.

Cunt leader or cult leader? Both work I guess.

Will this be compatible with the Restoration Project?

That's an interesting question...no, they are completely different things. RP is an enhancement and restoration of Fallout 2, and Mutants Rising is a new game based on the Fallout 2 engine, artwork, etc.

First off, great job on the VA.

Secondly, I haven't been completely up to date with the mod. How is the main quest/theme/setting in terms of morality? Good, evil, grey?

Thirdly, the mod is looking real good and I'm really looking forward to it.

My 2 cents: voice acting is in dire need of better recording, way too much popping and noise. I understand you won't have the polish of an actual commercial videogame, but if all the voice acting is recorded like this I'd prefer to not listen to this. Note that this has nothing to do with the performance, which, while I don't quite agree that it was at the level of a professional voice actor, was fine.

Some areas also look a bit maze-like.. graphically they're some of the use of the original assets I've seen, but you should be careful not to make them too annoying, especially since environment navigation in the original wasn't exactly super-smooth (but the areas were designed in a way that it wasn't a super big-deal).

That's all, hopefully it doesn't come across as whining, because the project looks fairly promising.
