NPC Help

I have a question about the NPCs, Right now I have Sulik, Cassidy, and Vic. I just did all the quests in Gecko and was wondering if I should drop someone to get Lenny, is he worth losing one of my NPCs and if so, who should I get rid of? Thanks

RE: NPC Help

I think that sulik and cassidy are very good all-rounders in combat, and vic can use a gauss rifle for extreme devastation, so if you really want to lose an NPC it would probably be sulik (generally best only in close combat) though frankly I wouldn't bother getting Lenny at all.He runs away and all he can do is heal you. (first aid or stimpaks are vastly better). Also, seeing a ghoul can alter some people's reactions.

RE: NPC Help

Basically i would keep your team the same until you get to Marcus (i would take him over sulik). Later in the game when you can get the bot & stuff you should be able to take another npc easy (sunglasses, mentats, perks ect.)

RE: NPC Help

WHat??? Sulik is by far the best NPC, give him Mega Power Fist and theres nothing he cant do :) I always found Cassidy sucked because he was always knocked out of the fight and could never take any hits.

RE: NPC Help

What do Sunglasses do? and Mentats, Ive seen them alot but never bothered to use them, I thought they were useless items...

RE: NPC Help

If you put sunglasses in your weapon slot you get +1 charisma, and mentats are a chem that boosts Charisma and Intelligence.

Cassidy owns with a guass rilfe or Pancor Jackhammer. I never liked sulik cause he doesnt mix well with marcus (marcus tends to burst kill him). Cassidy can take hits in my game, just gotta give him good armor.

RE: NPC Help

Sulik sukk give lenny the gause pistol or yhe 223 pistol then he can kick ass.....

RE: NPC Help

Hey now, lets get back to this fellows issues.

The sunglasses- I think that you can find them on Salvatore's guard. This is the fellow just outside Salvatore's room. When you whack Salvatore, you're probably going to have to whack him too. Even if killing Salvatore doesn't lead to a shoot out, you should do it. Salvatore's guys have laser guns, but there are not that many of them and they don't last long if you have a good team and your armor is ok.

The sunglasses are, I think, one of the most useful items of the game. It gives you a bonus on your charisma and you can attract more NPCs. If you like lots of NPCs (and I do) use them. Mentats will also boost your charisma and allow you to recruit NPCs. Using both you can probably pull in the full 5 (arguably 6) NPCs that you can recruit through the game. Too many mentats and you can be addicted so you are wise to save the game before trying the drugs (I think this should be a general rule of thumb).

As for NPCs, I may be the lone supporter of Lenny. Lenny can take a lot of damage and if he is of the right disposition, can kick serious ass. Give him a SMG and he fights. I have known Lenny to keep fighting long after Cassidy and Vic have bowed out. When I took out the bandit at the Windingo mine, it was Lenny who took the damage, made the major moves and probably won the day. The guy may be falling apart and butt ugly, but he can damage. ALso he heals very fast. Finally when you get Marcus, Marcus will stand up for Lenny vis-a-vis Cassidy.

Vic can go apathetic on you, Cassidy can't take drugs and a few good hits and he's out. Cassidy is pretty good with ranged weapons (Gauss rifles) Eventually I dropped Lenny for either the bot, Marcus or Goris, but that's only because I preferred what these characters bring to the table. I like Sulik and kept him till the end, gave him the best armor and let him use the sledge hammer to drop targets. If you keep Marcus and Cassidy, try to keep them apart. Marcus has a bad habit of blowing people to pieces.

RE: NPC Help

Personally i usually only have 4 npcs at the end (Cassidy & Vic with guass, Marcus with a big gun of some sort (rocket launcher alot) and The Robot) I dont keep sulik somtimes just cause its a pain to keep him alive, he tends to die on me alot :(, but i think ill try this time through to take him the whole game.

RE: NPC Help

I always find Marcus gets killed by anyone with a decent gun, because he can't wear armour.

RE: NPC Help

It also has a lot to do with your combat choices. Are you a rush in - kill everything guy, or are you a sit here snipe them as they come guy?

It pretty much comes down to your character. If you are a melee char., chose close combat people that won't shot you in the back even if they tried, such as Sulik, or Goris, because Goris strikes many times and have extremely high criticals, he's a good choice for close combat. If you are a sniper type, pick up Skynet with cybernetic brain, because he's more accurate with long range, and he doesn't burst you like Cassidy. If you are a big gun person, of course, by all means, pick up Marcus, because he can burst with the best, and burn the rest into crisp(Am I the only one that gives him flamethrower?)

Now, maybe that will help. Oh, before I forget, welsh, you can dig up a pair of sunglasses in the golgotha.

RE: NPC Help

I found out that the bot you can assemble is GODLIKE with gauss(2 shots per round) while cassidy does only 1

RE: NPC Help

Dear Starseeker-

I did not know that about Golgotha. I have avoided the digging because I didn't want the grave digger rep. I have also heard that there wasn't much in the graveyard. I have to check on that when I replay.

I agree with you that the choice of PC depends on your combat mode. I like Goris a lot, but never get to use him enough as I finish the game within two weeks of visitng Vault 13. I find that Marcus tends to toast your guys if you are not careful so be careful with the flamethrower. I also notice that he tends to throw grenades at your people. I think Marcus is carrying around a lot of Post-Master hate.

I like skynet, not only because he repairs himself and you get to practice your repair skills on him, but I also find that he doesn't stand up that well to punishment. I pick him up and carry him for awhile but prefer him over the dogs.

By the end I am usually with Goris, Marcus, Sulik, Cassidy and Skynet.

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Sep-05-02 AT 07:53PM (GMT)[p]I think anyone who cant appreciate Sulik or Cassidy shouldnt play. They never cop out on me (i took out the raider caves with them alone at 8th lvl). Sulik just cracks thir legs (usually first turn he'll leave two or three lying on the ground), and cassidy is great with gauss, combat shotgun, or the sniper rifle. one shot to lennys head and hes out for good. plus, hes slow. vic just sucks, he takes too much work to get him useful. Marcus is okay, but since he cant wear armor, i usually leave him behind. the robodogs are also usually left behind, tho i do get them (just for exp) and then leave them. goris is just awesome. i always try to keep him, his hide is armor enough. i get dogmeat if i can, but he sucks (they fucked him up good; he was much better when he was 80 years younger. plus, he should be a talking head). I hate myron, since its too much work to get the drugs; thus, he is useless. dont get me started on miria and davin. skynet is useful if you save the best brain, but i never keep him the whole game. he just doesnt make it (plus, people dont like him). i usually end up with Sulik in advanced power armor (mark I) and with a super sledge, Cassidy in hardened power armor with a gauss or sniper, and Goris. sometimes i keep vic as a mule, but i let horrigan kill him (or i "accidentally" kill him while fighting horrigan). i usually will take lenny with me, just to take shots (he sleeps through most of it, always getting taken out in the first turn). i try to fill up all five slots, just so the good ones have a higher chance of living.

the only way to get 6 NPCs is to get all five, then marry miria or davin. but, you have to kill them at navarro anyhow (or the oil rig). if you dont, the Enclave will see through your lies and kill you, and you cant tell them to wait.

RE: NPC Help

The problem with Marcus is that he is the most dangerous NPC in the game. Marcus has killed more of my NPCs than any other encounter. Give him a flame thrower and he roasts you, give him grenades and he frags you, give him a chain gun and he fills you with holes.

The best thing to do with Marcus is to let him charge, but oh he has no armor, so pretty soon he's on his ass and you are trying to save him.

Vic, may go apathetic, but he makes a good sniper. Lenny, if you have one that fights, takes a lot of pain. Give him a submachine gun and he's happy.

Agree with Sulik and Cassidy. Cassidy may have heart trouble but he's great with a rifle.

RE: NPC Help

I'm pretty sure Cassidy will also get two shots once you max his level. The robot is ok, but if I had to choose between Cassidy and it, I'd take Cassidy because I feel a strange kinship with him. He's a great character ;-).

Cassidy has 10 Action Points when he levels up some more....

Actually the best thing to do with Marcus, is to give him a non-burst weapon.(In Example = Pulse Rifle.)

RE: NPC Help

Nah! don't drop anyone to get Lenny. What you should do is drop someone and get Lenny then drop Lenny and get back that someone you dropped. This'll give you some extra experience points. If you decide to get Lenny then I say he's crap in combat but good with doctor. I don't know what you want but it's your pick though
