FO2 production question.

So Old I'm Losing Radiation Signs
Somethings been knawing at me.

Ive known for years that FO2 was rushed to release.

What Im wondering is how rushed was it ? How much longer was neede to 'complete' it the way the designers origonaly wanted to do ?

If I recall right, it was said to have been rushed out the door in under a year; 10 months depending on whom you ask. It came out the year after Fallout and showed where Feargus learned how to make his world-famouse "SLAM DUNK!" mastarpeeces.

Ah, so the production time was cut at least in half of what it proably should have been...........

Thanks Rosh.

And, ironically, showed many of the management problems around Interplay when it came to "support". :)

Hmm, considering the time was cut in half, Ive really gotta give props to the FO2 team.

True they fucked a lot up, but in that big of a rush........... (though the overuse of tribals and easter eggs was a no-no)

I think they did a great job is so little time. And considering how other games take a couple of years in the making and they come out as nothing but pieces of crap, it seems even more amazing. That shows a game made with love.

I almost feel like sheding a tear. *sniff*

Now is where I point out that the original team that worked on Fallout and then later left, they provided a foundation and did much of the basic design that some of those left decided to urinate upon with every little brain fart of theirs in that short development cycle. If it weren't for the Fallout developers first putting down the groundwork, Fo2 would have been F:POS-caliber shit given the treatment of the existing design, and Fallout would have gone the way of Wasteland then. Frankly, the base design managed to have some effectiveness that stood up to Feargus and Co's "SLAM DUNK!" bungling mentality, and that was the only way anyone likes the game despite the bugs.

Ya know I had always wondered the same thing. With all the unfinished stuff it made me wonder what the time constraints were. Damn corporate policies! I bet Fallout 2 wouldve been just as good as Fallout if they gave them the opportunity to complete their labor of love.

Thanks Roshambo and Psychosniper.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Given what I've said above, I would be extremely afraid to see what kind of mess Fo2 would have been made into if it did have more time for people to stumble around in development. :?

Yeah, the origonal FO team all left for Troika and otehr places about halfway thru the game if I recall right.
