FO2: Trunk of car has disappeared

HappyHarry

First time out of the vault
I'm perplexed: I started off with FO2 UK version... didn't know any better. I installed some patch, which stopped ghouls from attacking me in Gecko (1.02?) and all ran fine... still no kids though.

As near as I can tell, the installation of 1.05 made the trunk of my car disappear (with everything in it) in any follow up saves. Also, I frequently lose the car now. I returned to Toxic Caves, Vault 15, only to never find the car again. Anybody else have this happen? Do I just go back to 1.02 and hope for the best?

In case it matters, I'm running XP (why?) SP1, on an Athalon XP 2800 with 1G Ram and 2x120G HD NTFS. regular mouse and keyboard.

Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

Normal UK edition or Low Violence edition (ELV)?

Most probably the 1.02 patch, which is the latest one, I think. But did you check whether it was the right patch for your version? I mean, there are also patches out there for a German and a French and a US version, if I'm not mistaking.

There's no official patch for the English Low Violence edition, and the readme file says that patching it will corrupt the game. Maybe that's the problem? (Although I've heard that the UK patch should work just fine.)

No, for that you'll need the children patch (or kid patch, whatever).

That's probably the best known bug if you are playing the unpatched version (car bug). I thought patching the game solved that, or made it extremely rare. Hm... I didn't even know there is a 1.05 patch out there? Anybody?

Also: you should patch your game before playing. Save games in the unpatched version will become invalidated after patching.

Have you checked how to install FO2 under XP? There are threads about that. But your configuration shouldn't be the problem. You might have some trouble disabling the forcefields, though (because your computer is way too fast).

That's all I can think of for now. Hope it helps!

THanks for the feedback Blade Runner.

I have UK normal version. Everything worked fine with the 1.02 (most probable) patch which I installed - after starting over. Didn't have kids. SO yeah, gotta find the kid patch.

I think I'll just start over and make sure all is in proper order of patching... and start again... had a messed up character anyway.

Thanks!

You can find all you need right here:

http://www.nma-fallout.com/files/index.php?action=category&id=31

You can find the official patch at Iplay as well, but not the children patch, that one can only be found here and at some other dedicated Fallout sites.

I'd stick to the official UK 1.02 patch if I were you. I use that one myself and it always works just fine.

First install the 1.02 patch, then install the children patch, and make sure they are in the right directory.

Also, remember that if you bought a recent budget release, chances are you don't even have to patch the game.

Anyway, glad I could be of assistance!
