I got word from Jeremy K that Dewin Townsend is evidently working on the soundtrack to Fallout (3?), here's what's on his own website:
Video game soundtrack participation
Devin is currently working hard on the soundtrack for a video game for Interplay Entertainment called “Fallout”, the third in a series. It is stimulating his ambient side and he is finding it a nice challenge, though difficult to write with restrictions. We have no idea at this time when the game will be available on the market.
Well now, thanks Jeremy !

Updated: As I suspected this artist is working on the music for FBos, here's Puuks respons to this news:
Van Buren is currently composer free. It'll be a while before we get to the music part of the game.
Thanks to Jiles for informing me..

If it's the third in the series, and IT IS FO:BOS that he's working on, it means they're counting FO:BOS as the third and ignoring FO:T. Which is just odd. If anything, they'd count FO:BOS as the fourth because if they're counting FO:BOS, they should count FO:T as well.

In any case, it's really the second spin-off from a series.

Here is the what Sawyer once said:
I think the ambient style of Fallout's soundtrack should be used in any future Fallout sequels. Mark Morgan would be an ideal choice.
Good.

And yes, that's what puzzled me also DU.. Why call it the third in the series, they must have written wrong..

DEVIN TOWNSEND????

Jesus H. Christ! That would just be...stupid.

*imagines driving through the Wastes accompanied by speed metal and shrieking solos*

Just keep the old music...jeeze...

Devin Townsend? Now that's a suprise. He could probably write ambient stuff if he wanted to.

Torment was finished when Mark Morgan started composing, took him one or two weeks. They threw it in and shipped the game. Pretty good fit.

Indeed, and Sawyer is trying to get Morgan again, that´s very cool.

Well yeah, but that's standard these days, even for films, not to mention for games.

I hate those quickly thrown-together "takes-a-month" compositions of movies such as Braveheart and Star wars (Williams sucks anyway).

The music for "Conan the Barbarian" took like half a year to make, but just listen to the result.

Ehm, oh, wait, that's not what we were talking about

Yeah, Mark Morgan, woohooo
