FoEK (fallout 1&2 editing kit)

Thanks. Does anyone know of a fallout 1 or 2 editing app that is for Mac other than fallout survival kit? i just want to see if there is in fact ANY competition on the Mac side.

There is nothing else for the mac. You could have that market cornered for sure.

Code Monkey - love your enthusiasm. The official mapper does have certain issues and the modders could list dozens of fixes that are needed. I wouldn’t try to build a new items editor - (F2WEDIT by Cubik) already covers that corner and it does a brilliant job, that software is being upgraded intermittently by Cubik. Whatever you build for the Mac community will be gratefully received, but I think that is a tiny number of players.

PS: Could you reduce the size of your banner by 50%, its far too large…

Well because i am more concerned with he lack of a proper fallout editing kit on Macs i will be adding everything i possibly can to this app, whether or not it has been done better on PC it has never been done (right) on a Mac. I will release it for PC only because i can very easily thanks to RB. as for re inventing the wheel, i doubt i could do that alone, and so far thats how i have been doing it so i will either build all i can on the mac side from scratch and then transition it to PC or petition some of the developers of the better PC apps and see if i can implement there source code, or if they would like to share information with me.

im starting my move tomorrow so a am desperately trying to get a fully functional Alpha level app for Mac modders to test/use. ill even release it as PC for testing as well.

i should have an alpha up and ready by the end of the week...

Now a map editor on the other hand would make you famous. The current editor is very annoying and out of date. Some people can't even get it to work.

yes, i would say that is more worth.

I’ve had plenty of experience with Dim’s Mapper, and it’s officially recognized as “Evil”…but still, it’s the only mapper that can modify Fallout 1 maps.

Now Code Monkey if you could make the official mapper compatible with Fallout 1 maps and that would include new proto types for Fallout 1 - (it only works properly for Fallout 2) I would nominate you for a Fallout super coder award. Or if you are up to improving some of the current tools we use for animating, etc, we would be so grateful.

That is an excellent idea. Right now I am posting on my iPhone from a motel in New York, so I won't get a chance to look at that source code untill later today. I'll give it a gander and tell you if it makes sense. Thanks guys, it's good to see at least one ofthe modding communities is more a comunity rather than compition *cough* macgamingmods.

Just wanted to throw an update out there. Just finished my big move, so im pretty much situated. Il start working on the FoEK over the next couple of days. Working on the item swapper now...

I loved the idea of the Fallout 2 Survival Kit. I have found it very helpful, but it does have some annoying drawbacks. It will probably be difficult to get really useful feedback until you can make a more advanced and usable save editor available, and people have the opportunity to play with it and comment on it's usefulness and features.

Both Mac and PC versions will be great. I have always been a Mac user playing the Mac versions of FO1 & 2, but this means I can't play the Fallout 2 Restoration Project (or FO 3 or FO New Vegas). I am working on building a PC to correct that.

Pixote is right. Such a project can be a long haul, but don't give up. A useful save editor and/or map editor will be glorious. Fallout veterans will worship you, even as they find fault with your work.

"Fallout veterans will worship you, even as they find fault with your work." Heh, nice.

Well for what it's worth, i'm working on fixing the bugs in Dims since I haven't found a decent map editor anyone else, and I can't get BIS Mapper to work at all no matter what I try (just goes to a blank screen and then exits :()

I'm not very good at coding but i'll fix what I can in Dims. As far as we know, what are the main complaints about Dims mapper?

Code Monkey seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth.

As for Dims Mapper, a zoom function would be nice, as well as night light option...also if the editor could expand to full screen, instead of a tight 640x480 box. Fully editable key shortcuts are a must as well.

Adding critters, companions, simplified coding, and super easy scripting would make you a LEGEND.

Cool, thanks.

Did any of you guys get BIS Mapper to work for FO1 files? Maybe i've been doing something wrong.

If Code Monkey is gone, then someone else who intends to stick with it should start a new forum topic with a similar title. I'm sure a comprehensive FO 1&2 editor would be a blessing to all. Bethesda putting out the G.E.C.K. for FO3 was great. It's still being used for FO New Vegas. A good editor for FO 1&2 would likely get extensive and joyful use.
