Fun and games in Iraq.

Bhurak

First time out of the vault
Not sure who pays attention to the news, but it looks like the iraqis and friends tagged 2 large pipelines. Production is down from 1.7M barrels a day to around 550k or less.

Interesting to say the least

none really, just thought it was interesting. They got the last pipeline today. All production has ceased.

But let us discuss.

Do you feel it is appropriate to destroy infrastructure that might be vital to your nation's recovery in order to help oust an occupying force?

It follows the old saying "Cutting off your nose to spite your face."

The Iraqis doing the bombings probably still believe the the US imperialists simply did this because they want Iraqi oil. Therefore, remove the means of moving said oil and the Americans should go away right?

No, it just means the US will probably stay around longer if nothing else.

"I'd rather die than let you take over! So - watch me!"

...And then the civilians will blame US for poverty.

This is important.

90% of the Iraqi government's revenue comes from oil at present. Cut the oil and you cut the government off at the purse. Police and soldiers don't get paid, contracts don't get completed, people get pissed off and the government becomes criticized and loses crediability by the people. A political move and financial move.

There is also a strategy of stretching out US and IRaqi forces in different directions. The pipelines were in the North and the South. By forcing US and IRaqi forces to be everywhere, they can't concentrate and thus are weaker everywhere.

So a clever move on the part of the IRaqi resistance.

As well, with forces stepping up security, a deeper feeling of resentment will result in galvanising the people of iraq against the occupation.

Really, quite a smart move.

I bet Iraq will be the poorest country in Middle East ruled by vicious islam fundamentalists in less than ten years.

Much thanks to those morons who apparently love their religion more than they love their country.

I doubt this has anything to do with religion. These folks beleive they are occupied by a hostile force. They are doing everything possible to make it a living hell to stay in their country, in an effort to drive the invaders out.

The russians did this in WW2. It's called scorched earth. Leave nothing for the enemy, even if it means harming yourself.

They may or may not be right about being occupied, but that is the beleif they operate under, and they are acting accordingly.

It's all just agrivation. What do you usually do when a mosquito pest annoys you? I usually, and any other non-nature freak, would swat the shit out of it.

I think these fanatics in Iraq can use a little education about Gandhi. Not how I would approach the situation, but his methods have been proven to be useful, so he must've done something right eh? Of course if India was ruled by nazi Germany, for example, then it probably wouldn't be the best way to about it, since you'd end up in a camp somewhere.

According to a story on CNN today Iraq may be headed to martial law soon if the bombings continue. Not that I think it'll do anything to deter them.

...You do realise the both the US and Europe are founded on the idea that religion is more important than the nation?

In any case, I hardly see national zeal as something more positive than religious zeal.

Of course, there are always some stupid liberals that don't give a fuck about national nor religious zeal...

Praise Jesus.

Really, how would that be much different than now? There is no civil law there as is, only martial law.

Meh, boring. We'd have no more wars. Then where would the fun come from?

I realize that it's a common misconception resulted from reading too much and thinking too little, yes.

And what the fuck does that have to do with modern day Iraq?

Well we turned out alright, so I don't see how valuing religion above country is inherently bad.

Unless you're American, 'cause a non-patriotic American is a traitor, ey

PS: if I were religious, I'd value my religion above my country. Then again, I don't value my country much
