Gameplay and story segregation?

Out of my mind, freshly made
Seeing an article on TVtropes made me think - most of Bethouts are becoming games which seperate the lore from the game itself, don't you think? What with power cores and the such being the best example.

Somewhat neutral on this myself, but what are your opinions on this?

Nothing on Fallout in particular, it reminded me and I just thought it was something worth mentioning. I'm being limited URLs, so it's Gameplay and Story Segregation on TVTropes. Just Google and you'll find it immediately.

Just a theory.

Lore should always drape the gameplay ~not the other way around.

In the case of the fusion cores (as a limiter), FO4 is set distant enough from 2077, that all of the original power supplies should have long since ceased functioning; and so it's not entirely implausible that the fusion cores in FO4 are are retro-fits that are not really ideal matches.

Come to think of it, I once made a mod that added an alien energy rifle to the game [FO3], and that used alien power cells; but it offered an option to alter the rifle to use micro fusion cells as a power source. However it used the whole micro fusion cell for one shot, and the weapon did less damage than normal. It was a chance to use the weapon after the supply of alien power-cells ran out.
