Gameplay Impasse

Warhammer: 3025

First time out of the vault
In all the years I've played Fallout 2, I've never bothered to try the "beserker" (y'know, slaughter everything that breathes, blow up Gecko, etc) character.

Well, I seem to have run into an impasse. I killed AHS-9, then snuck into the Shi HQ and formatted the Emperor. Now I can't figure out how to get fuel to the tanker

Did I screw myself, or is there a workaround?

Take a lot of Mentats, wait for the negative kickback to drop your INT to 1 or 2, then talk to Matt of the BoS.

Well, you can still convince Badger (tanker) or Handy (Hubologists) to refuel the tanker, if either of them is alive. If not, you'll have to hack the Shi mainframe, which...uhm...y'know, isn't easy.

I think that unless you already transfered the fuel to the shuttle, you might not be able to get if from neither one. Badger can't hack formatted drives, Handy doesn't do hacks, and the workstations won't respond, AFAIR.

Per?

Basically, as soon as I hit town, I gave the vertibird plans to Matt (I had already hit Navarro) in order to get the Brotherhood Power Armor (I like that one better than the Enclave armor), then snuck into the Hubologist base and killed AHS-9 (and made the scientist guy upgrade my armor), then snuck into the Shi base and formatted the Emperor.

Clercqer suggested talking to Matt again after taking a bunch of INT-lowering drugs, and I went back to the Brotherhood base in San Fran. When I got there, Matt was gone, and the computer inside had a video log of Horrigan killing Matt.

I was able to hack a Shi chemistry terminal with my Science skill in the 60's and get the fuel that way, though I don't know if that'll work if the Emperor is formatted since I've never done that. Myron should also be able to hack computers quite well - if you haven't killed him too, that is. If you have, you can try reading every Big Book of Science you can find to get your skill high enough if needed. In case that's not enough, reserve some of those skill points you get from killing stuff and leveling up so you can tack them on afterwards (read the books first to get the most points, though).

Try Broken Hills. Or steal them from Lynette. And I'm sure you can buy them in San Francisco.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I'm having a very similar problem. I'm playing an "evil" game, so I naturally joined the Hubologists.

I've killed Badger. I've transferred fuel to the Quetzel from the Shi Chemistry Workstation. I've formatted the Shi mainframe, turning the Shi hostile. Matthew has disappeared. Whenever I speak to Handy, all he says is, "Greetings, enlightened one," and my only response option is, "In no way. Thanks."

Do I have any more options? It just seems odd that the game would reach an impasse after following natural quest progression.

If you didn't kill AHS-9, try taking Psycho to become stupid then talk to him. You'll get some xp you shouldn't have, but maybe you can live with that. If that doesn't work, you might have to use the Savegame Cracker to set the tanker fuel variable.
