In their 2006-2007 overview, RPGWatch notes that 50's Americana FPS Bioshock and post-apocalyptic zombie-fighter FPS/RPG HG:L are two of the games to watch in the coming year:
Irrational’s Bioshock is certainly one of the most anticipated titles of the year. While Irrational has yet to find breakaway sales success with any of their titles their two studios have produced some excellent gameplay and Ken Levine and Jonathon Chey bring both creative vision and experience. The recent strong emphasis on Bioshock as an FPS rather than a genre crossover title is odd but the world of Rapture still looks fascinating.

Hellgate: London is expected in 2007 (although Flagship has carefully avoided speculation on the release date) and many will expect Bill Roper’s team to blow the lid off the action/RPG genre. It’s interesting to note a difference of philosophy with Flagship pitching this title at the hardcore hardware end of the market, while Blizzard always made accessibility a priority.
RPGWatch also reports that both games made CVG's "2007: The ten PC games to watch".

Hellgate London? The pseudopostapoc diablo clone?

Pffrts. Good to watch if you need a game DVD/CD to use as a pizza cutter.

Agreesomeness. It looks like absolute console trash in the best case.

And that FPS comment about Bioshock is slightly worrisome. I say slightly because... well... System Shock is also mostly FPS but it still rocks. Time will tell.

EDIT: Also, why is this news?

Because "Two games we have already reported about still exist" is hardly news.

(Unless it's Age of Decadence. You can report about Age of Decadence all you want. Mmmm, Age of Decadence.)

What can I say? I always look for oppertunities to pimp out Dhruin's RPGWatch. Plus reminding people of games never hurts, especially those we cover peripherally, like HG:L.

Plus...slow day.

I can't wait for the day when we see the first screenshot of FO3. That one screenshot will answer 100 questions.

Well, how many firstperson roguelikes with the kind of production values that Hellgate: London has have we seen? I don't expect it to be another Fallout, but if there's some meaty roguelike goodness there, I'm game for it.

Hellgate London... i think that game sure will make huge success, there no so much game like it... Post Apocalyptic world with huge amount of demons... i cant wait to play that ;)

Oh, you mean 100 variations of the question "How bad could FO3 possibly be?"?

Another game to watch is UFO: Extraterrestrial, due out at the end of February. It's a top down turn based Xcom clone. I have no idea if it will be any good, but it's nice to see something I might want to play given all the shooters and RTS games that are flooding the market.

Some more info for people who are interested in Bioshock the game is set to be released in June 07
