Gamespot has another article on Fallout 3

Gamespot news editor Tor Thorsen posted a news article on Gamespot about the cancelling of Fallout 3 and the dispersal of BIS. His news article dealt mostly with the screenshots released here on NMA, and the uproar they caused. A snippit:

However, given the amount of bad blood recently spilled, a reconstituted BIS development team is a faint possibly at best. On his farewell post on the Interplay forums, Fallout 3 producer Tom French's bitterness was plain. Describing the laid off workers as "a very dedicated group who struggled through some of the worst conditions possible in order to keep working on the game we kept making up until the final day," French speculated on what might have been. "I think what would have happened would have been a sort of second renaissance for our games. … We would have most likely proven with Van Buren that we as a division still cared a great deal about the games we made and the fans they were for."

It's a fun game to pic the flaws out of this article, just take a look at it. For instance, Tor seems to hold the belief the Fallout gaming community wasn't aware of the co-op mode to be implemented in Van Buren. Also, he was forbidden to show the images on Gamespot by none other than Herve Caen

EDIT: in all fairness, though, I think it's great that Tor did turn the focus to this delicate subject. You have the gratitude of the Fallout gaming community, Tor

I don't know, I don't think the article's that bad. It certainly wasn't a surprise to us that it was going to have multi-play, but for people not following along it might be.

Hopefully, if nothing else, all this fuss makes Caen feel like a big fucking idiot.

Tor here. What you guys are missing is that the this is that image was the first hard, physical evidence of an FO3 co-op mode. Most people DID NOT KNOW THAT. I have to write those articles for a wide gamer audience, not just the hardcore FO3 crowd.

We also couldn't publish the art b/c they're still techincally interplay's property and we could get in legal trouble. Jesus, you think that you guys would be a little more grateful and/or graicous that I am sreading the word that one of your favorite games has been cancelled and even providiing a link to the FO3 petition.

Oh, Odin is the Norse got of Wisdom, not flaming.

You mean you didn't also note the screenshot from the vault as being the first image? I'm sorry, but it wasn't. And yes, I know what you mean in the article, but you're creating a wrong impression (first two screenies were released and then came the main menu shot which caused the stir), which is fine with me, basically.

Plus I dunno about you, but I don't think the main menu shot caused the biggest stir. It caused a stir equal to those of the later shots, but the ingame shots certainly provoked more reaction than the static menu shot. And yes, I'm limited to NMA, DaC and Iplay in this, but I assume those are fairly representional

I appreciate the article, Tor, and I do love that you're doing this for the Fallout 3 community, but I just had to take a stab at this. Sorry, it's my duty.

m'kay... However, most RPG fans did know that... Bis has time and time again said it...

You know what Tor, it's our job to point out flaws.. You should know that, actually I am greatful for you posting about this. So thanks!

And where have I flamed you, stop with this flaming stuff.. Ever heard of a joke ?

You have to understand that for us it's really funny to read that the coop was one of the biggest surprises, I betcha you knew it.. Oh and all the others that have followed this title..But I do see your point..

Why turn the focus of interplay canceling FO3 to the little bit about a co-op?

Some of us knew, others did not, some of us might me mad, but a lot might also have liked a co-op. Thats saying that a co-op would have ruined the single play, but I am sure that is not the case.

I am glad the article was wrote, the more people pissed about fo3 being canned the better.

Whats the big deal with this i guess we could never be satisfied huh, reading through ur post is like seeing someone biting at the hands of your ally. I cant imagine myself being put in thorsen situation where each article he posted was partly to apease you and also to help out and then rubbished in the end. Who do you think you are?>

Oh, give him a break. He's just dramitized it a little for the public. In the end it is just a way of pointing out a few details or features even if some of the more trivial details are technically incorrect.

So what major flaws are there? None that I can see. It's not like that crappy split personality article on gamespy earlier.

Who do you think you are?

We are the fans, Fallout fans, we pay the money for the game, and we read the reviews, we go to gamespot to read the reviews, so gamespot can get money off their banner adds. We are consumors, and we can do and say what we want.

We deserve to have opinions about games and game companys and game review websites. Got it?

Good

We have been waiting for close to 5 years, and to some of us, its kinda important, in terms of time and effort we have put into coming to these boards and reading reviews, FAQs, and contributing opinions to the game, therefore, anyone who is going to BS us around or screw things up for us can take some message board heat, scary I know.

It a fallout fansite message board, and we are Fallout fans. Thats who we are.......who the fuck are you??

All i gotta say is why all the bickering...

if you guys wanna fight, take it to PM or even better.. AIM, ICQ, YIM, MSN Messenger, save NMA the bandwidth use... Just not here... and preferally no-where near NMA.

This whole argument thing is getting pretty lame guys. Slow.

I think the article was fine. Most people don’t have the time to check these boards everyday. I know I definitely don’t, and I end up missing lots of stuff. That does not make me any less of a fan. You must understand that this Tor person writes articles for all different games, he surly has no time to follow every detail for every game, Fallout included. The Fallout community is an extremely critical one to say the least, but I think we should start giving people some breaks, especially reviewers, since we want as many anti-interplay reviews as possible right now. We don’t want to scare them off do we?

The article is fine. Chill out, people are critical here (well, I guess some are just whiny).
