Another kick in the face of RA; GameSpy, who were positive about the game in their preview, shredded it to bits in their final judgement:<blockquote>Restricted Area could have nicely filled the underused niche of the sci-fi action-RPG, but the bugs, boring level design, and tedious pathfinding combine to make the game a miserable chore. Too harsh?

This game can't be that bad, can it? Regardless, I'd be willing to try it anyway.

Does anyone know where you can get the .mdf or the .mds for it? I couldn't find a seed for the torrent on xxxxxxx.

It's interesting how the same person, Carla Harker, did both this negative review and the positive preview. Or maybe she just paraphrased her pan from Something Awful.

meh, I wouldn't blame her if she did, I wouldn't want to waste my time on this POS either.
 
Journalists aren't allowed to write previews in a negative tone. Stupid, I know. If something looks like shit and sounds like shit, chances are it will also play like shit.
 
I played it, it's the very definition of "Crap"... truly awful, i can't remember the last time i played such a godawful commercial game.
 
Holy Crap Man!! This Review was "A KICK IN THE EGGS" of RA...

I think they only forgot to say this:

All the data, cds, manuals and documents must be incinerated and the creators change their jobs...
 
I think its ok to be harsh as long as you are honest.
Maybe the game sucks big time, I haven't tested it so I couldn't know myself.
 
Stolve, if a freaking game mag is taking a shit on it, that's all the convincing I need. These are the same people who propped up Driver 3 and all the other trash out there; if even these media whores hate it, then either the RA publishers didn't bribe them enough or their miniscule consciouses got the better of them. Either way, the game is crap.

GameSpy were among the first to bury Driv3r. I think they rated it 2/5 or 1/5. I suppose Atari had no adspace on their site.
 
I don't know whats worse; that the review totally rips it or ... that i'm so used to things looking half decent that one look at the screen shots stopped me even reading past the first paragraph. Honestly, shooting huge guys with hammers or general black leather jacket, mad max impersonation. Maybe i'm so used to having games with decent graphics or artists who spend time on the system (where most of the time is spent) and not the cut scenes that this just made me cringe. Are games getting to look too good to be true ?
 
This review makes the game actually look much better than it is.
The Something Awful review comes closer to reality.
 
That true i played RA and while the graphics looked kinda cool the, gameplay exiting at first but when you got to the second mision you just cant seem to wonder "wasnt im here and did the same mission 10 min ago ?".
Ps. the whole game did have some major slow downs when i tired to open the inventory and ect.

auto assualt has entered the 9th stage of the closed beta, i got accepted :D
also on saturday at 12pm to 4pm Central they will be hosting an event for everybody to log in to stress the servers

Something management has more or less realised

We got pretty sick of it ourselves after preview x100, emphasizing how things we're sure to hate are the strong points of AA.

Total meh
