General RPG Thread

I've noticed there isn't a thread just talking about RPGs in general (at least to my knowledge, for all I know, I could have posted in one), so I decided to just create one.

So what RPGS is everyone playing/Looking forward to or recently bought etc?

I recently ordered the Gothic series, Planescape Torment and Icewind Dale from amazon so I'm looking forward to picking them up.

I should also really check out Vampire: The Masquerade (I may pick it up on Steam at some point in the near future, need to get some more money for it through).

I really wanted to play Gothic series but turns out it works like dogshit on modern systems.

They are on sale on GOG.com at the moment VtM: Redemption is at A$2.69 and VtM: Bloodlines is at A$8.89 (sorry, I don't know the price in other currencies).

Just looked... I'm buying it as soon as I get home...

Edit. Is redemption any good at all by the way?

I'm currently going through Underrail now that I have actual free time again along with some Fallout 1.5 and may take a look at Mankind Divided once more reviews come up.

Redemption seems to be positively received for the most part in recent years and I have heard good things about it at times. I have not played though so I can't verify whether the positive coverage is deserved and Wikipedia has noted it received a mixed critical response when it came out.

Bloodlines, at least, is very good though in need of patching to get a stable experience.

Cheers, I may pass redemption off however and pick up arcanum instead.

I've heard that Arcanum, Bloodlines and Planescape are pretty much a holy trinity of games and all stem from Fallout devs, so that seems like a wiser purchase.

That and from what I've read, it appears Redemption gives you a preset character (even through I don't know for sure).

Edit. Just looked at the other games the devs have done.
Nope. They suck.
Gonna avoid Redemption like the plague.

On the Codex (from what I can tell), Arcanum is well-loved as an isometric RPG (though has its flaws). I, for one, enjoyed Arcanum (though my version suffered unbearably bad lagging at times).

I can say Arcanum is quite re-playable (different character builds are very feasible) and has a very interesting world that manages to combine steampunk technology and magic into the same setting (the manual in the GOG version is quite an interesting read to say the least since it does provide actual in-universe text that establishes some of the setting's features). The combat game-play is it's biggest flaw for me though.
If you do intend to play it, you will need to get a couple of mods and patches from Terra Arcanum (http://www.terra-arcanum.com/downloads/).

And there's nothing more I can really say about Planescape that has not been said except that it's a great RPG experience.

Have fun with your purchases.

Cheers, I will.

I'm mostly doing it for research however as I really want to make my own CRPG in that nice old school style.
I think Bloodline however is just because I enjoy the dark and nitty gritty world of things.
I'v heard Planescape is a lot like that (except I plan to go into ll these games with as little knowledge as possible, all I know is Planescape is very dialogue heavy).
