Getting Started. Extract the tiles, entites and sprites etc.

MIS files

In my Tactics/Core/campaigns/mission folder i all have 5 bunkers but only about 8 missions - the first 4,6,9,11,20 and 21 (?). Is this correct, i'm sure it can't be because i'm looking for the springfield mission file and it's not there. Am i right in assuming that Tactics loads missions from these files. I'm on full install BTW
Thanks

Update: In fact, after searching for a while random i've found that i've only got a very select number of files anywhere - 2 ammo files in entities/ammo, only healing kits in enhancers, only rocket launcher in weapons. I'm begining to get very worrried as to the totalness of my file collection. However, the game works perfectally fine.

All the missions are in the mis-core#.bos files, the ones you can see are the patched versions. To see the others (presumably) in the editor you'll need to extract them with winzip. Springfield is mission08.mis.

Nope just unzip them to the correct folder, the game reads the folders first before the bos files. So you don't need to repack them.

This is really an editing topic not gameplay or technical, moving.

Entities decompiler

I want to mod using different Entities, what program do I need to decompile that file?

I belive it's the... entities_0.bos

Thats in the core folder

The only entities I see when I mod are 2 ammo files..?

So I figured I might need to decompile the entities)0.bos file for the rest of them..?

That's nice... Is there a "program" to extract those entities or not?

If there is I could make a nice mod with all the tutorials out and about :lighten:

Winzip or winrar. Which ever you use make sure you extract keeping the folders intact and reapply the patch afterwards.

Or you can use the Booster, but again reapply the patch afterwards.

FOT Tactics editor question...

When I click on tiles all I get is an option to load tiles.....from where?
I have basic editor knowledge...I understand the boxing..map sizing etc.
When I read the tutorials at DAC..it just stated that the tile sets where already loaded in the editor.

Yet I see no tiles... I see the premade maps..but I want to make my own.

Where are the tiles?
Is it right in front of me...
I'll look again..

NEVER MIND...I guess your actually supposed to read those pesky read mes!

No wonder there aren't any FOT campaigns or mods...they make this editor harder than it has to be..

Should have started years ago...If I want FO3..I'll have to make it myself.
Silent Storm would be a good engine for that!

Back to the renaming and unzipping all those BOS files...i

Sorry did you check the downloads section?

Just use the booster, fastest way to unpack everything to the correct locations.

Apologies for not reading the sticky thread.

After a fresh, clean install of the game, I patched it to the 1.27 version. I then used winrar to unpack the entities_0.bos, Mis-Main_0.bos, and tiles_0.bos back into the fallout tactics/core folder, and I presume the necessary folders were created, and files replaced, along the way.

After that, I unpacked, all at once, the entire contents of fallout tactics/core back into fallout tactics/core – including the already unpacked 3 files mentioned above. This was to speed the performance of the game.

Would it have made a difference to the final result that 3 files had already been unpacked? Would this result in some of the mission files being hidden?
If not, please give me a hint as to whether I have not in fact unpacked everything, or whether I have unpacked them to the wrong place.

If I have missed unpacking some files, which ones would they be? And if the the wrong place, to where should I unpack the files?

Need advice

Argh!!

Is it so hard to see that this topic is the one you want?

Mis-main_0.bos is just the random and special encounters, all the files begining mis-core are the campaign missions which is covered above. If they still don't show up then you've extracted them to the wrong place (also covered above) check you haven't got an extra folder in there now, for example program files/fallout tactics/core/core/campaigns.

Re-apply the patch after extracting the files and no don't repack anything after you've finished editing them.

I mistakenly posted to the sticky thread. Sorry about that.

Hopefully I'm on the right thread now.

I unpacked all the files in fallout tactics/core back into fallout tactics/core after applying patch 1.27. I did this so that the new data from the patch would also be unpacked.

You say I have to apply the patch again after the above process?

Also, if the missions are in the mis-core_(A-E).bos files, to where should I unpack them?

FOT reads the unpacked files before it reads the bos files, when the game is patched the patch just adds the new 'patched' versions to your hd rather than to the bos files. So when you unpack the bos files (unless you've said no) you basically overwrite the patch.

Use winzip and make sure the use folder names option is ticked then extract to your core folder. Winrar tends to extract where ever it feels like (well that's the impression I get from everyone who has this problem). Otherwise extract them so that they go into the same place as the missions you can see in the editor (makes sense huh?).

This time, I used winzip instead of winrar, as per your advice.

You may be onto something about the problems with winrar as regards Fallout Tactics (strange, never had a problem with it before), because this time the missions did show up in the editor.

It worked! Thanks!

After extracting the mis-core_#.bos files, I then applied the patch again just to be sure.

One more thing though, Missions 13 and 14 still seem to be missing, though Missions 1 through 26 are there (except the 2 above).

Are they deliberately inaccessible?
