Good games that will run on a crappy system?

Yeah, a lot of people don't like driving in Mafia, but for me it is one of the reasons I love the game. Race level is massively loathed too, but funny thing is it's actually pretty damn easy once you get used to handling. I suppose most people just don't have patience for these kind of things. As I understand, handling is supposed to be exactly the way it was back in 30's. Cars actually handle quite differently from one another. Have you gotten around to unlocking better, faster cars or did you just gave up in very beginning? Anyway, this game is much more impressive for me than GTA 3 that came out the same year. I can't even play it anymore, driving just feels so stupid compared to sim-like handling of Mafia.

Yeah hated that one. I actually left the game alone for years because I was so annoyed with that level. But then I gave it another shot and I would encourage anyone who hasn't finished the game to do so. IMO the missions get a lot better and more interesting after the racing level as does the general storyline.

There's also a very easy way to cheat through the racing level, if you really need to, by using the shortcut road behind the barriers and using the num 0 (reset) key.

I remember wishing the game was less realistic the first time I played that race level. I've read that race level difficulty was somehow lowered in a patch, but I finished the game so many times I don't even need it anymore. It's just a matter of breaking out first in the early stage of the race and then driving really carefully, without unnecessary rushing from then and you finish that race without a problem, as long as you don't go for a speed record.
This game is rewarding, but it also demands some patience from the player. Mafia 2 will probably be dumbed down compared to the first one, I just can't imagine them releasing game like that nowadays.

If something is too easy it becomes boring.

I loved the fact that the driving in Mafia actually required the player to practice. I loved the racing level and I loved the game in general.

Just as I am loving GTA San Andreas at the moment.

I'm disappointed that you didn't finish the other two.

Although that's probably just form a personal thing I have where I have to finish every game I invest a decent amount of time on.

Max Payne 1-2, Half-life 1-2, if you like RTS maybe give Warcraft 3 and/or W40K a try, and if you haven't, definately KOTOR 1-2.
