My apologies to Micky for him not having a clue about tear gas.
In retrospect, I should have done the kind, huggy, and hippy feel-nice thing and educated them about what tear gas really is.
Oh, wait, I'm not a teacher and I deteste people who think they can offer solutions whilst having no idea about what they are talking about. Akin to Xotor's post, anyone with even a basic idea of tear gas could would have liked to thump Micky around the head. I know the effects of it, anyone who is trained to USE it has been under the effects possibly more than a few times in their career.

Really you shouldn't be compelled to respond if all you want to do is hurl vitriol.
Tear gas only affects the eyes. Some armed forces have specific training in being exposed to it so that they can learn to function in it. The Chechnyans could most probably still operate if it was used and knowing the troops were coming would be able to blow the place up. They wouldn't be able to see enough to hold up a proper defense but with the explosives could still do considerable damage.

The hostage takers were allready killing people and there was somthing like 100+ of those psycho nuts, they had to use somthing that would take them all out fast...or they would have blown the place of the map with all of that explosifs that was strapped to their six pacs!! i suppose they could have simply used a less stronger gas....but hey this is russia were talking about

No, that's correct, I saw a segment on that on 60 minutes I believe. The reporters "tested it out" by letting themselves be subject to the noise. They were pretty incapacitated as the held their ears after hearing the beam of ear-damaging, high-dB sound that pierced into their head. Good riot control and no pesky international human-right treaties barring its usage like chemical riot-control agents.
