Good way to clean up / optimize PC?

So I've had my former gaming desktop for like 8 years and I am getting worried about it. It's nothing major, just weird startup noises from within the casing. And over the years god knows how many programs I've installed and uninstalled but never properly removed. So I was wondering if there is a good tool to clean the desktop up that isn't just reformating the computer and starting over from scratch?

What's wrong with reformatting? :p

I used to use CCleaner occasionally, not sure if it actually did much, or if the program has turned into some weird spyware/bloat by now.
Edit: yeah, I did sort of remember right, see lower parts in here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/CCleaner
Dunno if it's good again.

I'd prefer not to lose any data I have on it. I can always just move certain things but there are other things I will not be able to export because either I can't or because it would be an immensely enormous chore to do so. Also I lack a windows install USB stick/disc. :V

"Cleaning up" your data drive(s) will definitely not fix "weird startup noises from within the casing". Find out where exactly they're coming from and fix the underlying problem, which is more likely hardware-related.

A way to troubleshoot would be to disconnect all components from the mainboard and try to start it. Reconnect one by one until you have found the source of the noise. If it's already present with only the board connected to the PSU, it's most likely the PSU.

So uh, I turned off my speaker and even tried unplugging it while starting it up to see a little sumthin sumthin and uh... I don't hear the whine. :bigthink:

So your speakers were making a sound during startup? That's interesting.
It also had weird noise at shutdown and when the computer was off but the speakers were on it could emit a tiny little constant whine.
Is my speakers pepsi? Should I just replace them?

Hm, ok. I did get a new uh... Socket extender? As I swapped around computers so maybe it's bad, I should try using a different one when I can find hte time to mumble around with it.
