Graphics Card Doesn't Fit?

I just bought some more memory, a new disc drive, and an ATI Radeon 9250. The disc drive is the only one which worked.

The radeon did not fit, and neither did the memory. I figured out my memory problem, but for the life of me I can't figure out what's going on with the graphics. Any help?

I'm running an hp pavillion a335w, if that helps any.

AGP or PCI-E?

Needs to be the same on both motherboard and vid card.

I had a mate who bought a PCI-E vid card, and he had AGP on his mobo. He knew this, but the salesperson assured him it would run on his AGP slotted mobo. Needless to say, it didn't

You could. But you're probably better off buying a new CPU as well, because there's a pretty big chance you'll run into problems otherwise.

Plus, HP isn't known for the moddability of its products. There's a chance a new motherboard won't fit in the case, or with the power supply, for instance. It all depends on what you have now, what your budget is and what you're aiming to do with it.

That hp model doesnt have pci-e or a agp slot... but you have 3 pci slots.

really??? wtf. never have I seen a comp without at least one AGP or PCI-E. How old is that thing?

it doesnt have to be old per sé.

it was not uncommon for the el cheapo HP or Dell's to have on board graphics & no AGP slot. they're mostly meant as cheapass workstations for office crap, not graphics.

but that of course means you restrict upgradability greatly, but why would they care? simply buy a better HP!

I have noticed how poorly made many of these computers are, with poor motherboards that only fit into cases made by the same company while providing shit for upgrade options, but they have always had the mercy to at least provide an AGP slot. Oh well, I guess it's time now more than ever to start building your own comps...

Haha, suckas. I got a new 128 Meg graphics card, and nVIDIA Ge Force FX 5200, and an extra 256 RAM. And, here's the cincher, it cost the exact same as getting anATI 128 meg card, and a 128 RAM card. So, 128 megs of free space. I'm happy.

The problem with HPs, is that even AFTER you decide to rip out the motherboard to replace it with something good, the power supply is still far too weak to really handle running anything but a bit above the bare-bones package most Pavillions are designed with. You may run into a load of power-related stability issues.

HPs really were designed to be as cost-efficient as possible, and were going to be one of the templates for a "PC console". Thank goodness that didn't go through. Compaq is another I'd use as trebuchet fodder.

Dirty, I can't hear you. I just upgraded from a SIXTEEN MEGABYTE CARD.

Give me some reccomendations for games to utilize my newfound 112 megs.
