I completely understand the reason that companies utilize DRM, and it makes sense. Unfortunately, DRM itself doesn't. The only people DRM truly affects happen to be legitimate consumers, forcing them to deal with irritating and restrictive "protection" schemes and sometimes bogging down in-game performance while those scurvy dogs keep YARRing games without having to deal with that shit.
It's for those reasons (and convenience) that I sometimes use 'cracked' executables with the games I buy.* As a disclaimer, in no way do I condone the pirating of software - if you want to play a game,
BUY IT. Even so, this kind of situation makes me feel as if
I'm being punished for what
other people do. I certainly appreciate companies that refrain from using DRM, such as Stardock.
Piracy happens, and always will. It isn't fair, but it's the cost of business.
