RE: ?

For the people that are waiting for the demo to get out in the mags, i have some questions:

-You`re saying that the turn-based is not like fallout or x-com, not even like jagged alliance??
-You`re saying that ctb is like baldur`s or icewind dale?!!!!!that`s ground for treason charges at least :-( ...
-The IA wasn`t balanced correcly for both fighting modes????
-No right mouse click??????????????????

For the art debate i`ll have to wait and see, since the pics i have aren`t that bad...

RE: Tru...

DOH! I just remembered something in the graphics options that might help if you want it to look more grainy. Turn off the Anti-Aliasing and see if that makes it look better.

Anti-Aliasing is a method of blending pixels to give it a smoother, blended look. It's "on" by default.

RE: ?

I actully just got the demo, and thought it was pretty good. It needs to be tweaked a little bit (Especially the turn-based mode, it needs some serious tuning up) but I think they'll get it right in the end.

RE: Tru...

Bah...gimme a second, running tactics to see what you mean by "too clean".

....

hmmm...yeah tactics could use a little bit more rust but it wouldn't make much of a difference, the game already looks pretty worn down to me and YES i did get the feel of FO1 and FO2. the fonts are fine cept for the character bar, that's too narrow and ugly, everything else is fine. i think 14 Degrees East has to work on character control, CTB in the demo is way too fast and furious, doesn't really work well and turn based is just too tedious and boring. Also minor things like ammo flushing and sound issues (when selecting stuff in inventory)have to be worked on.

But we can't really complain, this is afterall a squad based game, and this is exactly what Interplay expected from 14 Degrees East. And Chris Taylor told us on several occassions that this WON'T be an RPG, more of a Tactical side story to the Fallout universe.

Just think for a second...what would happen if they totally stopped work on tactics, and used the exact same layout and engine and started work on fallout3? I mean, if fallout3 was to be made in 3D right now i don't think the graphics would be convincing but using the BOS engine as a base and having most of the interface and control alreayd done all they'd have to do is get rid of the squad based portion of the game and work solely on a fallout 3 perspective. But i guess it's too late now? It would be a guarnteed hit, 1million units+ Perhaps release tactics, see how it goes? And follow it up like 8-12 months later with fallout 3 minuse the squad base crap, and just concentrate on fallout3? If only I had Force powers...heh

One more thing, I'm pretty sure after Chris and the other designers/programemrs read the forums they'll fix the most important issues.

Yes I did not explain my feelings about Turn-based, as I have to agree with everyone else. It is there and that is about that.

RE: I'm just hoping....

haha rosh, dune did suck. specially the 3rd episode

it became crappier as it went along

it was a cheap star wars wannabe miniseries , fremen were cool, action sucked a bit, specially those SEMI-AUTOMATIC MINIGUNS that the freakin harkonen had WTF? SEMI AUTOMATIC MINIGUNS WTF?

3 barrels but it shot like a fucking pipe rifle, stupid dune directors, if george lucas was in charge or steven speilberg it would have been amazing

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Dec-25-00 AT 01:19AM (GMT)[p]since i can't seem to edit my above message...

after extensively playing the demo , start to finish, i now realize that from these 2 missions BoS looks to be a succesful REAL TIME SQUAD BASED game.

you can't criticize it for not being "falloutish" certain aspects had to be sacrificed to make it more tactical and military oriented, splendor of high tech weapons and vehicles 80CIRCA years after WW3 is not convincing to those who would have prefered more RPG elements in the game. the name is also a big hint FALLOUT TACTICS, meaning NO RPG even though were presented with a little it's not an RPG.

i personally would have much prefered FALLOUT 3 based on the BoS engine, it would be amazing if done right. it's also a posibilty, if Black Isle were to make FO3 now it would most likely use the BoS engine as any 3D game engine right now will lack the capabilities needed to make FO3 a convince post apocalyptic CRPG. either use BoS as a basis for FO3 or wait at least 12-18months before FO3 is started using a 3D game engine.

another thing, this demo was made to present us with the combat system of BoS and what i said in my previous post wasn't accurate, if done with planning combat using CTB is pretty cool and satisfying. it brough a real time feel to fallout, i hope they keep CTB for single player in the final release, can't wait for the multiplayer demo

hope i've cleared things up,

RE: Tru...

Are you serious there coming with a multi player demo? When will that be?
Anyone else use the whole team I only use bullseye and the smg guy and the doc to heal?

RE: Tru...

Remember people, the game won't be out for several months still, that gives them time to tweak and change stuff around a little bit.

This was designed to show stuff off, by no means is the game finished, we shouldn't judge a game that isn't out yet by something thats designed to show off the combat system.
