Well you have to consider his options. He'll either move farther to the right (A super-conservative.), move to the left (A moderate or even liberal.) or just complain Bush is a bad Republican and they need a different Republican president.

Actually I am wondering if this is all damage control.

Libby supposedly got this info from both Cheney and Rove- so perhaps the White House figured it can axe Libby who is dirty and thereby avoid losing more important folks.

The better result would be to get Rove and Cheney to resign over this- at least this way the president could gain some crediability for standing up to corruption and running a "clean White House."

Not that I would buy even that, but I think a lot of his constituents would.
