I did a similar thing, my friends and I played BOS MST3K-style until we beat it, then we went out back and melted it with a pile of fireworks.

Ahh burning things, now that's stupid entertainment that doesn't cost millions of dollars to make, it's even better when you film it...

...Where do you get this stuff?

Various previews and newsclips, I forget exactly where, but I'm pretty sure that Gamespot was involved...

Not to underestimate the enjoyment that a bad game can produce, similar to when I used to watch bad movies with my friends just for the fun of ragging on it the whole way through (and the precept on which Mystery Science Theater 3000 was based, of course... man I miss that show).

I've seen the Independance Day and one of the Startrek ones, both were pretty good, on par with the show I'd say.

Back on topic, I'd say very few shooters "stand the test of time", it is just the nature of the beast. Half life isn't even reinstalled very often and it is one of the best FPS's I've ever played.

This is less true with more open ended games like Far Cry but in general I'd say FPS have pretty low sticking power in general.

I think the market is so saturated with low quality shooters that we tend to skew our statistics into conceptions about the possibility of style.
