Hard Truck: Apocalypse shot down in the reviews

Gamespot seems to be the first major gaming site to review Hard Truck: Apocalypse now that it's been out about half a month. Here's what they have to say:
Hard Truck Apocalypse proves that a fantastic name can only take a game so far, and without compelling content a game just isn't worth playing. It's an appealing concept: a role-playing game set in a postapocalyptic future where you have to drive heavily armored (and armed) trucks across a vast wasteland, delivering supplies, scavenging loot, and blasting gangs of bandits off the road. In execution though, Hard Truck: Apocalypse is about as exciting as counting the grains of sand in a postapocalyptic desert.

(...)

Hard Truck: Apocalypse is a lifeless and boring game that lacks any sort of depth or excitement. If you're expecting an action-packed, Road Warrior-esque romp through a lawless desert wasteland, you won't find it here. Instead, you'll find yourself taking a trip down a long road that will have you asleep at the wheel.
Final verdict: 4.4/10

Well another interesting gaming idea was screwed by the developers .... are we suprised ?

Before:
"Hard Truck shows definite promise, as it looks to be a unique take on the role-playing genre", - says Gamespot hands-on preview.

After:
"Hard Truck: Apocalypse takes an interesting premise and strips away all but the most mundane elements, leaving you to drive down a long and unexciting road to nowhere."

Wait a second. Have any of you actually played it? Did you bother to check gamer reviews on Gamespot? Try it for yourself before you start making comments like that. Sure the game has its problems but ultimately its a fun experience, ive been playing over 20hrs and still enjoy it.

i didnt play the game but my comment wasnt about this game in general, it was about how developers screw up games and great ideas.

ps. dont read gamespot reviews but i they must have a good reason for a 4.4 verdict

Yeah, no kidding. Previews are a sketchy business, though, because if you trash a game before it's even out, that is unfair, but if you praise it or gloss over its flaws, then it sounds like you're a liar when the game comes out, because you are.

And there's a considerable element of bias in previews towards the publisher because, after all, they did give you a free copy of a development version of the game, so in some respects you owe them one. And if you trash it you're unlikely to hear from that company again about anything else.

My solution is to avoid previews like the plague unless I get stuck with one. They're lame as hell.

Lamespot does wonderful kneepad work, as they obviously did for "Hard Suck", until they actually get the bitter shot on the mouth.

It feels wonderful having the cattle rush Obliviously into a game to see what it's really like. :D

Yup. It is why I have a really honest, if blunt, way of trying to point out the things that make me think that all is not right with a title, and I'M not the one getting paid to make the game.

And there's a considerable element of bias in previews towards the publisher because, after all, they did give you a free copy of a development version of the game, so in some respects you owe them one. And if you trash it you're unlikely to hear from that company again about anything else.

Free copy of what is freely available to them and is nothing they aren't willing to hand out to any schmuck willing to kiss enough ass for it. This is what happens when game developers get the idea they are primadonnas.

Previews at most gaming media sites suck more ass than the reviewer in denial that actually LIKES Uwe Boll.

The 'storyline' is simple at best.
It seems they took a payload of words, put them into
a shotgun, and just released the trigger;
the dialogue script was born.

I played it some hours, as an old arcade fan it was quite nice,
collecting money for upgrading the truck.
Cruising around the first level me thought, ok, it's
very plump, but for one hour just washing the day away, ok.
But with the missions done form the first landscape,
entering second one, you're just driving thru boring
neverending lands.

No, this game must not have been played.
