Hardware Help. Optical Mouse double clicks with one click.

The Vault Dweller

always looking for water.
This only started a few days ago and I've never had a mouse do this.

Often when I click it registers as a double click. It makes browsing a bit hassling as I click back and end up two pages back instead of one. Then when I click forward it might even put me back where I began!

It happens about 1/3 the time, but at random.

I've never cleaned this mouse, but then again I've never cleaned any mouse I've owned previously and this never happened.

I wouldn't mind buying a new mouse since they're cheap and I can even get one "free" by taking one from many old junk PCs my Uncle keeps, but for the sake of feeling accomplished I'd like to fix this one.

Should I just open it up and blow it out?

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

If it's cordless you may want to replace the batteries.

Otherwise, go ahead and blow it out and see if that fixes it, but if it doesn't it's probably just broken.

If cleaning it doesn't help, the button is probably broken, in which case you can't fix it and will need a new mouse. Coincidentally, I ordered a new mouse today. It's a gaming mouse, is cheap enough and has the features I want. Dunno if it's any good, since I don't have it yet: http://www.x7.cn/en/product.asp?id=11

Ive had this problem myself with my wireless Logitech mouse. It just gets worse by time so you definetly need a new one.

I've had this problem with my wireless Logitech mouse and cleaning it a bit + time made it fix itself.

I've also had this problem with an optical mouse, but it wasn't wireless. didn't matter if I cleaned it, it was simply old and broken.

I had a similar problem. Turned out that even though the batteries where fully loaded they where from different brands, that was what made my mouse act crazy. (Also Logitech)
