Has anyone here played Halo Wars?

Hello everyone,

Has any of you played Halo Wars?
If so, what is your opinion of it, and yes, do use other RTS games if you have to make comparisons.

Most of the game sites are rather positive about it but as they have become pretty much the tools of publishers I rather hear the opinion of people who are actually into RTS games.

I've played it, it's okay, you don't have to deal with all the "OmG TeH PWnzoRZ master cheif!" crap and it's pretty fun, not really sure of what to compare it to though but I'd definetly say give it a play.

Ah, okay, thanks.

I am not really into the "OMG master chief" crap, its just a game character like Gordon Freeman.

Can you also save the game during a mission?

I played the demo. It seems ok. I actually like how the game controls, you can do things pretty fast. I'm still undecided whether I want it, it's not something I'd pay full price for though.

Yeah, no thanks, with all courtesy and respect, fuck Halo.

I've played tons of first person-shooters, literarilly starting up with DOOM in 1994, and forever then onward, and there's nothing unique or special about Halo in any way, shape, or form. It's nowhere near as innovative or amazing as people say it is. The only thing they've managed to do is bring a better control schema for FPS games to consoles. That's it.

Suddenly because it got a lot easier to play Goldeneye doesn't mean the new Messiah has shown up or anything.

Halo Wars is just another lousy rip off of Battlefield 2 with an "Omg Xbawks" overpaint.

What does any of it have to do with his question?

The commercials make it look like a Battlefield-type game.

They show nothing of the RTS structure that will inevitably frustrate unknowing buyers of the game.

Maybe it's some sort of blind justice directed towards people who buy things only by watching a commercial... :P

Meh. Most of the Halo design reminds me of plastic toys, really. And I've never been ito the whole Halo thing, either. Like Dracon, I think it's an overhyped, uninspired and overall pretty crappy franchise.

So, no, haven't played it nor will play it. The only good thing to come out of Halo is its music and the amazing artwork in its graphic novels.

Well I am not obsessed with Halo, but as its a science fiction game series I always take a peak.

A lot of Halo's FPS storyline has been copied from Starhammer and The Vang duology books by Christopher Rowley which I recommend by the way.

So does this game even remotely compete with the monster titles of RTS on the PC? Or is it just a watered down RTS game for consoles that thrives off the Halo name?

It's a dumbed down RTS for consoles.
I don't see the point of buying it, especially since Red Alert 3 on the 360 is about a hundred times better and isn't built especially for console gamers who've only played about ten RTS games in their lifetime.

If you've played your fair share of RTS games, playing Halo Wars will be like going back to second grade, it's childish to say the least, easy and tedious.

Well I was more curious if it was one of the better games on the Xbox360 (see my last thread).

I was considering getting Red Alert 3 for the PC until I realized that it had Securom.

I played halo 1 & 2. they were, hmmm OK at best but nothing ground breaking. not really interested in Halo 3, Halo ODST or Halo Wars.

nah, it ain't worth getting a xbox 360 for. i mean check out the reviews. the game ain't really that good from what i have read/heard.

Reviews? Did you say reviews?

Oh well, I guess that the fact a Halo title didn't get an 11 out of 10 from major sites does say something.

At the same time, IGN gave it 8.4 and Editor's Choice.

I've also seen a bunch of other reviews giving it very good scores.

TBH, reviews can't be trusted. Gamespot is the one that usually makes the least sense. They mark down certain games for absolutely no reason. But, I AM surprised they gave such a low score to such a famous title. I'm used to them sucking balls of big gaming companies.

Most places reviewed it as a game in a league of its own.

Gamespot reviewed it based against other RTS games including ones on the PC and that is where it was completely demolished.
It started quite a large flame war in the sticky on SW on if console RTS games should be reviewed with PC RTS game standards.
