Help needed with Kansas City & Osceolla

Neo911

First time out of the vault
On a happier note, I am having trouble with 2 levels.

The first is Kansas City, the second is Osceolla.

The problem lies in the sheer number of super mutants in each level. I can pick off the odd dozen, but as they outnumber my squad it is hard to keep them back.

In Kansas, I find it difficult to defend all the exits with only 6 people, as it is hard to separate them equally.

In Osceolla, I can't advance anywhere, as my squad is gunned down, I have no decent defence areas etc to fight the mutants off, and when one attacks, the rest come running. I have tried getting to a house or walled area with no luck...

My squad consists of:

Myself, Metal armour mark 2, H&K claws and Sniper rifle, high gun skill (all)
Medic, Metal armour mark 2, H%K claws and hunting rifle,High doctor first aid small gun skills
Sniper, Metal armour mark 2, Sniper rifle and Hunting rifle, high small gun, perception etc
Big gunner, metal armour, M249 SAW, grenede (frag), High big gun throwing
Trap guy, meatl armour, H&K Claws, Various traps, High trap skill, average small guns skill
Average person, Leather armour mark 2, Beretta 470 silverhawk, hunting rifle, good all round, guns ok, sience high, lockpick high etc

All have at leats 2 super stims, and 5-15 normal stims each. Doctor fully equipped with first aid, doctor bag, poison antidote, various chems etc. All have high quantity of ammo. Sniper uses shotguns well, as do all my characters, all at high levels of experience.

Are there any magical strategys to the levels, guys etc or do I just suck?

Kansas City is best handled with mines. You have to act quickly and trap the hell out of the entrances. It works better if you have extra mines in your inventory. Set up snipers on the south and west entrances. With the help of the ghouls you should be able to take on the mutants pretty easily but it takes some practice.

Danke, you are full of helpful suggestions JJ, and I rhank you very much for that. As for Osceolla, I get beasted all the time, fucking mutants...

Hm... I dunno about that. Every time I've played the game so far, I only get like a meagre 30 seconds before the Super Mutants start attacking. Doesn't give me enough time to set up those mines. I see no real difficulty in taking care of them with Hunting Rifles or Sniper Rifles and using shotguns to halt them when they get too close. Works fine - always.

As for Osceolla: I think this is the mission where you finally understand you should have made a more sneaky character. I usually take the character with the highest sneak AND traps skill and let him take care of those Super Mutant patrols with MINES. After I've taken out the patrolling units, I start attacking the gates - one at a time. When I've killed all mutants at one gate, I proceed to another gate and start the same thing over again. This way most mutants will have been eliminated before you even enter the building. The mutants in the underground facility shouldn't pose much problem. Make sure you find ALL the goodies, though, 'cause one of those goodies is kinda hard to find. Oh... and shoot Roshambo before leaving the map. The crazy guy next to da blimp.

Now I'm curious, what is this goodie? Ta for all the help ny the way

SPOILER

It's a Holodisk Tape. It's in Gamorrin's room (not sure if Gamorrin is spelled right, though). You can't really see the Tape. You have to move your mousepointer around the table in that room and it should eventually show up. Take it with you and you get extra xp. Leave it in your inventory until you have to face Barnaky in the endgame. He will react to it.
