High RPG Replay value games

There is a topic on the best RPGs and from that I wanted to make this thread. Currently I'm collecting the (imo) the best RPG that have been made. However I'm haveing trouble finding the High Replayable ones. Fallout is one of the Best RPG out with a realt high replay value. There is Arcanum and Planescape shouldn't be missed eather. So what should be next on the list?

I already own the Baldures gate pack (and icewind dale).
I bought NWM 2 and own 1 already.

I played Gothic 1,2 and 3 but I didnt think it has a high replay value (right?).
I bought vampire: bloodline and I'm planning to buy TOEE (good choise?? And what about redemption??)

Other games on my list are KOTOR 1 and 2 but since i'm not a Starwars fan I'm haveing doubs if I should buy it. (does it have a high replay value ? I might reconsider then)

The elder scrolls.... what to say about it....I tried morrowind and oblivion but it didn't feel right.. Gothic is much much better (imho).

Are there any RPG games that I might have missed? Do you know any RPG with a high replay value?

I hope you guy can help me out. Post you opinions, what you liked, didn't like etc. Older games like like Ultima 7 should be mention as well.

Anyways, since you have NWN1 and 2, I'd suggest start looking into the playermade module scene. It's not "replayability" per say, but there is really loads of content there. It varies in quality obviously (there's a lot of really awful stuff), but some of the modules are very good, and better than many full-on games I've played.

Temple of Elemental Evil is tough to judge like that. You should keep in mind that it's basically a dungeon crawl, and I'd say a lot of the replayability comes from creating different types of parties and see how they work out. That can be a lot of fun though.
If I remember correctly, there are different endings, and a few quests that have different paths. But the meat of the game lies in the combat.
If you do get it, be sure to get the Circle of Eight mod as it fixes many bugs (and adds content, that is mostly pretty good). It really made my experience with the game go from unplayable to highly playable.

I don't think the KOTOR games are all that fun to replay, there are a few things, but meh. They're mostly fun to experience for the first time, as they are rather storydriven. And if you don't like Star Wars then I don't think there is much point to buying them.
 
I think that it's fun to replay as the other side of the force (i.e., if you played good first, then play evil, and vicey versa).

KoTOR isn't terribly Star Warsy at all, so I don't think it'd be a problem for you.

Wasteland's interface is absolutely horrible. Playing that game in this day and age when never having played it before is simply not doable.

That said, try some of the old SSI Gold Box games.

I second these excellent suggestions. I just played the two (only tried KoDP at a friend's home for a short time, though, and still had lots of fun with these.

Space Ranger 2 and Mount and Blade (MnB has some very good mods) have a good replayability even though they are not strict RPG (SR2 is a space trading game with some RPG elements, and MnB is an action/RPG with an enjoyable combat system and mounted combat).


I heard many people praise Amberstar and its sequel Ambermoon. How have they aged?

QFT. I've been playing it near consistantly for 20 years now.

I would also suggest Space Ranger 2 (although technically it's not an RPG, it does have some RPGish qualities).

I would also suggest KotOR 1, and then only KotOR 2 once Team Gizka finish their restoration mod.

Any of the AD&D Gold Box games (if you're willing to tolerate the 'ancient' graphics), as well as Al-Qadim, Dark Sun: Shattered Lands, Dark Sun: Wake of the Ravager (I played this for so long, even despite how horribly buggy it could be), Ravenloft: Stone Prophet, Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession, Menzoberranzan, Spelljammer: Pirates of Realmspace, and Fantasy Empires (okay, technically, it's not really an RPG either, but again, there's RPGish qualities about it).

Nethack, ADOM, and Ragnarok/Vahalla (freeware roguelikes... very high replayability)

The Summoning and Veil of Darkness (RPG/Adventure hybrids... moreso adventure, but both have very good storylines)

The Bard's Tale 1-3

Might and Magic series, at very least MM2

Bob's Dragon Hunt (not a good game... but is strangely addicting for some reason...)

Krondor series

Realms of Arkania series (only good if you don't mind micromanagement of your characters, like eating and drinking)

Shadowrun (both the SNES and the Genesis games... both are very good, with the SNES being the superior of the two, imho)

Princess Maker series... if you can get it imported and read Japanese, or can find an English translation (again, not technically an RPG).

Blood Bowl (imagine the Warhammer RPG mixed with American Football)

if you know what you're getting yourself into.

TOEE is far less forgiving than NWN1 or 2 for instance.

the story pretty much sucks also, but combat is perfect D&D.

overall, not really my kind of game.

There are lots of games posted that I didn't know about. I will check them out.

A friend of mine tells me that I should try KOTOR even though I'm not a Statwars fan. He told me that if I liked the gothic games then I should try KOTOR as well. Whats you thought on it?

The KOTOR games have nothing in common with the Gothic games except for having the same POV - a 3rd person camera behind the main character. Both games are basically Neverwinter Nights with Star Wars superimposed on it, so if you liked NWN you'll like KOTOR. Seriously; it has the same D20 rpg system and combat as NWN, and the structure is the same as well - you can choose which order you complete the middle sections of the game, but other than that it's completely linear. They aren't bad games really, and the second one has some great dialogue here and there, but they don't compare with Gothic at all.

I guess KOTOR being linear and with not that great replay value I will leave it alone.
and what about Vampire the masquarade: redemption. from what I read its not a real RPG. opinions ?

Redemption is a neat little hack and slash game. That's about all there is to it. Definitely not an RPG.

I'm playing it now. Yeah, yeah... only now I got to it.
Anyway, while it did take a little to get used to the interface, I've got used with it and I like it. It still feels cumbersome sometimes, but hell, I also play text adventures so I can take it.
The only thing I'd want (and I suppose most who played it) is a decent save system.

So, yeah, the game is really great. At first it seemed pretty simple and I started to wonder what the hell was with the whole talk about it, but soon I got into it deeper and saw just how complex and detailed it is.
Really, a classic that shouldn't be missed.

Redemption is great if you use the Story Teller Mode in multiplayer and some mods that the community created.
