Horribly horribly ugly faces...

First time out of the vault
Ok I came back from a friends played it and well I spent ages messing with the character creator at start of game trying to make a face that looked at least pretty but to no avail, I tried female character first and totally gave up, it's horrible - but then the male characters aren't much better either, it really does suck

I can't believe it's so crappy, I really did expect better, it's like giving a million different options to create something that ends in the same train wreck

I googled "'fallout 3" ugly" trying to find a fix or settings that other people had used and gave up, apparently the developers previous games were like this too? really annoying. as for people like on the other internet threads that say "bla bla it's war" etc, well, genetics doesn't work that way lol just because it's a bad situation doesn't mean people will be totally ugly.... it's just weird

but yeah, I don't like being railroaded like this and it seems its on purpose, another thing I noticed was how the default skin colour looks pretty similar to all the others instead of actually looking white lol... political correctness "ugly people can be good too" or just bad design?

(for background games i can remember ive played over the last year or so: age of conan, city of villains, left 4 dead, hellgate london and eve online (has the best character designer I've seen so far weirdly since you never see it and the games pretty boring) so yeah it's just a shock after to see such a terrible terrible character designer when its meant to be a roleplaying game!)

Dun expect good character design from a European RPG man =)

Rather than political corretness, ponder this: every non-white character I tried to make looked ugly. I wonder, Bethesda, I wonder... +)))

j/k of course...

I managed to make a pretty blonde, the catch was that she had CHA 1.

is there any way to check what settings you used on the sliders? i played with it for ages and was frustrated even tho as I said ive had experience with these things before... i was really looking forward to fallout3 too

The reason why the human faces and animations in Oblivion and Fallout 3 which is based on Oblivions engine looks so "weird" or "strange" is cause of wrong symmetry in the proportions of the faces and the wrong settings of bone structurs in the animations of the body.

Someone artist here even explained it in another topic with real life examples and pictures. I think most know here cause of the naked vampire in her signature or something

Trust me, the faces in Fallout 3 are a huge improvement over Bethesda's last game-- Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion

Tessera, who does absolutely brilliant models for TES4, amongst other things. When you see what he's done with the Gamebyro engine, you can only weep at how shit Beth's modellers must be.

Also, his 'review' of FO3 is here

i dont see any real life examples like you mentioned? was that another post or just remembered wrongly? what's TES4 is that a fallout 3 thing? *hopes*

no no I mean it was only mentioned in a thread here somewhere about the nonsymmetry in the human face compared to the human faces in Fallout3/Oblivion which are I think symmetric (I might be wrong here) and thus look many times out of place. I dont think the thread was directly about it. Some people just think Fallout 3s faces are "perfect" cause they are made by Bethesda or something.

One was complaining about it and did not believed it, claiming that indeed human faces are "symmetric" [which they are not] and she (he?) compared those with real life pictures of real faces. It was interesting to see the big difference in real faces and the one presented with Oblivion/Fallout 3.

The terrain at times was every bit as sloppy. Up in the north West area while I was trying to find the source of the Chinese transmission I found that there was a whole section of rock that you could walk through. Not in a secret part of the game way but just good old sloppy work. I had similar problems with creatures spawning partially or completely in the ground.

Thats all about the immersion man. I dig that shit. I love falling through the planet and people disappearing for no reason. Its all good.

Seriously though it is a common problem with Bethesda games nowadays. I ran into more problems with Morrowind to be honest though as far as glitches like that go.

If you try to climb around on the rocks much, you'll find lots of areas like this where you'll fall through the rocks on to the terrain mesh below.

The worst is the patches of terrain that have a super low res texture stretched out. There aren't many of those, but they are there, and they really look terrible.
