How do you think the Highwayman worked from Fallout 2?

So, currently in my party I have my PC, Vic, Cassidy, Sulik, Marcus, Goris, K9, and Skynet (yes I have 7 companions, I used some hacks) and it got me thinking...How do you think characters like Marcus or Goris actually ride in the Highwayman? They're obviously too large to ride in the car, so how do they travel along?

Imagine Marcus and Goris tied to the roof of the Highwayman. Really no explanation was given but laying down on the roof seems practical to me...
