Look, Ma! Two Heads!
Taking into consideration my character's maximum carry weight, subtract that of armor, accessories, weapons, and ammo in hardcore mode, and other items to carry such as food, water, and other items such as those for crafting, I am trying to determine exactly how much equipment I should carry and how much free weight should remain to carry other items.
For some of my characters, I only have a maximum carry weight of 210. These characters have an endgame strength of six to be able to use their weapons. They wear the Ulysses' Duster, First Recon Beret, and Lucky shades. With pack rat, that is a total weight of 4 pounds. These characters won't be able to carry as much as the others below.
Other characters have taken the strong back perk and have up to 300 pounds, wearing elite riot gear, elite riot gear helmet, and the first recon beret. With perk rat, this comes to a total of 29.5 pounds.
Only a few of my characters take the burden to bear perk. With ten strength, this comes to a total of 350 pounds. The T-51b armor and helmet come to a total of 44 pounds.
Some of my characters take the heavyweight perk to further reduce the weight to below ten pounds.
I have noticed that certain bullets, explosive shells, and shotgun shells weight more than others, so maybe I won't carry as much of them as I do the lighter ammo.
For example, my planned lightweight cowboy build has a maximum carry weight of 210 pounds. This character starts with 4 strength and gets two more points of strength through the reinforced spine perk. He/She does not use the strong back perk because he/she does not meet the requirements. The heavyweight version who wears the elite riot gear has an initial strength value of 4 combined with the strength implant, thus qualifying for strong back. Add two more points of strength from reinforced spine and I end up with a total of 270 maximum carry weight.
My planned melee or unarmed characters don't have to worry about carrying too much ammo because their weapons do not need it.
What I want to know is what percentage of my carry weight should all my equipment take up? How much of my maximum carry weight should I keep free to carry other items such as food, water, and other miscellaneous items?
