How to finish the game in twenty minutes (if you hurry up)

First time out of the vault
....FO1 - or in the case of FO2 "....in half an hour." However, RP has unfortunately made that impossible for FO2. Nevertheless since the GECK is also located in the Enclave everything that needs to be accomplished to finish the game can be done through SF so all else is "frosting on the cake."

Although along with others I'm in awe of the work Per Jorner did for walthroughs for FO 1&2, I have questions about his "How to finish the game in twenty minutes (if you hurry up)" for FO1. I can never make it work. The Lieutenant always follows when I try to run away & finishes me off. The only way I can make this work at all is to open Falche up & cheat.

Then "taking advantage of the ability to keep A pressed to prevent critters from acting" completely befuddles me. That doesn't work for me at all - the critters always get their combat turn. The only way to accomplish that is again to open Falche & give yourself 999 APs.

The only thing I have experienced that helped at all was a special encounter I had on the way to the Military Base which gave me the Alien Blaster. That solved the problem with "the right hand of god" & any other Mutant that got in my way. Really made things a lot easier.

I wish that someone would bring out an RP for FO1 dealing with its problems - especially those regarding the Overseer. E.G - blowing up the MB & the Cathedral makes it impossible to deliver the Water Chip to Vault 13. A great game could be made even greater.

It's been a while since I did this but I think the way it's done is you hold A before anyone's had a chance to act (even before the map loads), then move, and hold A again as combat ends. As long as no one's had a script "heartbeat" outside of combat they shouldn't be hostile. If it still doesn't work, try ending combat manually before using up all your AP, holding A again as you do.

Here's the proof....

I really wish I could see the above video scenario played out in person. I watch it over & over & have no idea hiow it is actually accomplished. I cannot do it myself. Sigh!

Skipping combat is accomplished through holding the "A" button in between screens when you know an encounter with hostiles is about to begin, but before the map loads. Once it loads, you have initiated combat, so you get the first turn, but you'll have to wait 2 turns before your second turn. However, if you just run away, the programming won't prevent you from ending combat, it'll just initiate combat once yours ends and then you'll be stuck. But the loop repeats itself if you hold "A" again WHILE you end combat, so you can escape encounters and any fight that triggers after dialog by using this same trick.

Outside of that, the rest is pretty basic. Knowing the exact locations of places you need to go. Having the stats to increase specific skills to a high enough point to facilitate your objective as efficiently as possible. Getting the important items as quickly as possible, and executing the speedrun with as few errors and as few unlucky encounters as possible. Simple, really.
