How to run Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics on Android!

Hi.

I have a Toshiba AT100 (aka Thrive) with Tegra 2 Dual Core and 1GR of RAM

I installed fallout 2 on a XP VMWare. I only installed the official patch.

If i want to start Fallout 2 on my tablet an error appears with "Running Fallout 2 requires the CD!"

What can i do?

By the way: i am using the german version of Fallout 2

THX!

You can buy tactics which doesn't require any cd from gog.

BTW, winulator can actually run a couple of windows games on Android itself - no virtual machines required.

Try this, I just added it to the OP

-Fallout2: If you have problems launching Fallout 2, manually install Killap's Unofficial Fallout 2 Patch (US/UK - manual install)

Good point Gunslinger, nice Picture. I will need to try this version but I will wait for it to go on sale. I'm not sure if it will work since the GOG version doesn't officially support win95/98. Support lists Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8)

I was also checking out winulator but it doesn't support many games yet and the performance might be too slow to comfortably play Fallout2. We will see what happens when it moves past its Beta status.

Unfortunately I have not been able to get Windows to load completely in QEMU on my Note 10.1 (model 8013, if it matters). Everything up to that point works as described, but Windows freezes on the splash screen and never progresses beyond that. I have to force terminate the emulator to close it.

My sdl.conf appears as follows:

Code:
/sdl -L . -m 512 -boot c -hda c.img -hdb Fallout.img -hdc Virtual.img -usb -usbdevice tablet -soundhw sb16

The .img files were renamed Fallout for the one containing the game, and Virtual for the 1GB image for virtual memory.

Let me know if I have it wrong. I'm running on a rooted device with CPU Master set to performance mode. I'm not sure what else I can try; if I can never get into Windows, I can't play the games, and that would make me sad. =(

Whoah! Fallout on Android, this is awesome!

But I'm not sure if it would run on my Xperia U, but it's worth a try, right? xD

Impressive work!

Hi, the emulator is extremely picky about the sdl config. If there is any discrepancy then it won't run. Try making all the img names lower case and shorten them, no more than say 5 characters. Also I see you've increased the default memory. Stay with 256 till you get the emulator running. You might not have enough free memory or are running out when you launch the game. Get the Free Cool Tools app to check the real time usage while you run the emulator. I have added a link to the video tutorial below. Let me know if you get it working so I can add your device to the tested list;)

Code:
/sdl -L . -m 256 -boot c -hda c.img -hdb f2.img -hdc vm.img -usb -usbdevice tablet -soundhw sb16

Hey thanks 8-) You should be able to run the games but Fallout 2 will be slow. Try running fallout 1, if you get dosbox turbo it will run smoother on your device. Watch the video below.

Fallout Tactics, Fallout 2

Hello Fallout fans. Today I got a new Fallout launcher working with DosBox turbo. The Result is that you can play Fallout 1 and 2 on Android very stably with a fully touchscreen interface, on screen keyboard and Bluetooth devices. I still have to finish tweaking and testing it but very soon I will make a new video about it. In addition many other X86 PC games will soon be playable on Android. So stay tuned to see the future of PC gaming on Android. Please Stand By!!

Here is the first screenshot ever taken of Fallout Tactics running on Android. Currently the cut scene videos crash the game but I was able to load and play the game.

Fallout 2 runs betters than I have ever seen on a mobile device and is much more stable than using QEMU. Killaps Restoration project is also working well with DosBox Turbo 8-) 8-)

Very cool stuff. I haven't had the time to try this out on my android devices, but I fully support your efforts. Keep it up!

Thank you for your support Killap! I have it fully working with your incredible restoration project now. I just updated the instructions and downloads. This new Dosbox turbo version i'm testing now will run games more stably than QEMU and faster. The controls are a lot better and it will be easier to setup. I've got tactics running now too but its still very slow. Good things coming

Current supported game list:

Arcanum works but takes 10 mins to load, very slow load times.
Diablo 1 runs very well
Fallout 1 runs very well
Fallout2 HP 23000 fs 0 runs very well
Fallout2: Restoration project runs very well
Fallout Tactics Is slow but runs
Half life Is slow but runs
Starcraft runs very well

Fallout for Android DosBox Turbo Version

Today I'm happy to announce a new version of my fallout for Android project is available for download. It requires a paid app but has much better controls and hardware support. Have fun

Hello Android gamers today we will be learning how to play PC games on Android with the App DosBox Turbo, the best and fastest Dos Emulator for Android. Recent developments have brought improved Win9x emulation to DosBox Turbo, such as Voodoo 1support. I have been working with the excellent developer Fishstix to bring my Fallout for Android Win9x solution to DosBox Turbo. After much beta testing we present you with our win 9X solution for gaming on Android. Your emulated Vault 13 computer can run many old school classics, including the first 3 fallout games.

DosBox Turbo Win9x Installation guide:

1)You will need to have the DosBox Turbo app installed on your Android device. Run the DosBox Turbo app and open the settings menu from either the pull down menu at the Top or left side swiping menu. Go to "DosBox Settings/Advanced DosBox Config" check "3DFX Glide Support" and "Manual Mode". You must restart the app before these changes will take effect.

DosBox Turbo Play Store Link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fishstix.dosbox&hl=en

DosBox Turbo Win9x Gaming Package Downloads:
2)a] Version 1.0 is the most stable but lacks Win9x CD/ISO support. Use this version to Play games that don't require the use of CD's or mounted ISO images.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/91m4y6udf5l69d5/Win9x_for_DosBox_Turbo_V1.0.zip

Or

2)b] Version 2.0 is less stable due to the Win9x CD/ISO support. Use this version to Play games that require the use of CD's or mounted ISO images.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/m6gzsz7g59vv35q/Win9x_for_DosBox_Turbo_V2.0.zip

Notes:
-The CD Rom support makes emulation less stable and can cause error messages when starting win9x with DosBox Turbo.
- If you experience errors simply exit and restart the app.
-There are alternatives to installing game data from the ISO.
-You can use the WinImage program to extract the ISO's contents to a folder.
-This can be added to an HDD image and the setup exe run from inside of an emulated win9x environment.
-Many classic games can be run with a Game Fixes, that will allow you to play without the CD.
GameBurnWorld No-CD Game Fixes

3) Install the free 30 day trial of WinImage and run the application. Be sure to use it before 30 days passes. This program will allow you to open and save your game data to your empty hdd .img files.
WinImage 9.00 Download:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-Tools/CD-DVD-Images-Utils/WinImage.shtml

4) Open your downloaded package and look for the hdd folder. Inside you will find the empty hdd images files to store your games and ISO's. Extract the default hdd-2gb image file and open the folder.

(Optional) If you wish to change the size of the image file you are using, then you must also change the name and drive geometry in the dosbox.conf file.

Default hdd line in the dosbox.conf file:
imgmount d: /sdcard/hdd-2gb.img -t hdd -fs fat -size 512,63,64,1023

Change the hdd name and drive geometry in the dosbox.conf file:
imgmount d: /sdcard/hdd-1gb.img -t hdd -fs fat -size 512,63,64,520

Driver Geometry:
2GB image: 512,63,64,1023
1GB image: 512,63,64,520
512MB image: 512,63,32,520
256MB image: 512,63,16,520

(Optional) If you wish to store the hdd onto an SDcard instead of the devices internal memory, then open the dosbox.conf file and change the following.

Default hdd line in the dosbox.conf file:
imgmount d: /sdcard/hdd-2gb.img -t hdd -fs fat -size 512,63,64,1023

Change the hdd name and drive geometry in the dosbox.conf file:
imgmount d: /mnt/sdcard1/hdd-2gb.img -t hdd -fs fat -size 512,63,64,1023

or

imgmount d: /mnt/extsdcard/hdd-2gb.img -t hdd -fs fat -size 512,63,64,1023

5) Now that WinImage is installed you can open the empty hdd.img's by double clicking them, dragging them into the open WinImage program, Or find them from the WinImage menu file/open.

6) Locate your fully installed games such as DRM free GOG games, ISO images or extracted game data. Drag the folder(s) containing this data into the opened hdd image files. Save your new hdd.img and close the program.

7) Plug your Android device into your PC with the USB cable and open your devices internal memory. This is the area that opens by default from your computer, all your android data is located here. Transfer the hdd.img, c.img, and dosbox.conf, files into this space; note that none of these files should be located in a folder.

8) Once the data is on your android device you can disconnect the USB cable. Now you can start the DosBox Turbo app and play your retro PC games on android, have fun.

If anyone is still on this thread, I am in need of assistance. I am running on a 2014 Moto X, 16gb model. After following the step-by-step in the original, possibly edited post, I was able to get DOSbox Turbo to prompt a start, after which I get the following message:
Insufficient memory to initialize Windows.

Quit one or more memory-resident programs or remove unnecessary
utilities from your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files, and restart
your computer.

Press any key to continue...

At this point, I can either let it sit until it shuts down, or press a key, which will cause it to shut down. I do not know anything about 9x systems and what will break them. I don't know what to do, here.

If anyone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

UPDATE: I have managed to boot in safe mode, but still get the same message when trying to boot normally. Unfortunately, this means no Fallout, as of yet, though, it is in the HDD image. Stuck with 16 bit color, Fallout does not like...

UPDATE 2: I got it running normally, had to drop memory down to 256, despite having 2gb on my phone. Was able to start and play Fallout for a short while, but it freezes and chrashes often, even when no programs are running. Don't know how to fix this. Using version 1.0 for better stability, but I'm still experiencing this.
