MS antispyware
Such a product does not exist. I think you must have dreamt it.
MS Windows built in firewall (This thing kicks ass. The fact that it's so deeply integrated into the OS is its best asset; nothing gets by it.)
Do we have the same MS firewall? :?
Now I know you'd say "Use Firefox" and I was going to, but I asked my buddy Rich and he tells me that Firefox was doing the same damn thing I got PurgeIE to fix! and there's no program called "PurgeFF"!!!
I don't have that problem, but I have it set to keep as little history as possible. Can be a pain with some sites that require cookies, but nothing worth seeing.

I'd say we do, but mine's very good to me, I've seen it block even other Microsoft applications! You would think no, but it really has. THAT surprised me. The one time I got spyware on this machine I was recovered within an hour. However I attribute a lot of my good fortune to cautious web browsing. Some techniques include hovering the mouse over suspect links to see if they are at the same domain as the reputable page you're viewing, and simply getting a "feel" for what a safe URL looks like, as opposed to one that's likely filled with shit.

And avoid ANYTHING that has to do with Lycos like the plague. Lycos once did install spyware on my machine, something called "Sidescan" or something like that. They also seem to be able to take over the "Search" window, albeit momentarily. (Going elsewhere resets it with no ill effect, but who wants to deal with people who do that? It's almost like having someone rifle your desk every time he comes into your office; he may not take anything, but what the hell is he doing in there?

(For reference, the problem was twofold; pressing "Clear history" wouldn't, and certain typed URLS would not go away. PurgeIE kills EVERYTHING, including MRU lists (which Ad-aware can kill as well).
I never had any problem deleting my history, cookies and cache in FF, really.

It's only certain URLs. I don't know why, but they stay. Oh well. What I have works. I'm happy. My ladyfriend and several other friends of mine whom I trust use Firefox, so I certainly can't say anything bad about it. It actually seems really nice.

I downloaded AVG Free edition, updated it, ran a virus scan on my PC. No virus detected. That would be good news, except the Norton warning won't go away, and when scanning, it's still there. Now I'm not even sure whether there is a virus or not. Ugh.

Kaspersky is tse roxorsky.

Though I wondersky if that knowledge alone warrants reviving this dead thread.

There may not be a programme called PurgeFF, but there is one called PurgeFox.

http://www.purgefox.com/

I'm a cheapskate, and haven't bought it, so I have no oppinion upon it!

Everyone get ZoneAlarm *now*. It has firewall, antivirus, antispyware, pop-up blocker and just about every other security utility you will ever need, all of it integrated in one great interface and all of it superb. Best of all - it's very reasonably priced. In fact, I hear you can get it for $0 via a site the name of which escapes my memory; I believe it's torrent<something>... :P

Wow Ratty, you're so hip.

It kind of looks to me the "trojan" is really a cracked exe of the game.
And Norton tends to "think" those are virus or trojans as well.
Buy NOD32, use Spybot search&destroy, and some kind of Anti-dialer and be careful what you click and your alright.
I could recommend antidialer that T-com made ....wait ....link....

http://www.t-com.hr/privatni/internet/sigurnost/antidialer/#1

size 1.3MB

on the bottom of the page click the link that you agree with terms and conditions and download should begin.

It works really simple, remembers what phone numbers are good and asks if it should alow any other.
