I *know* WHY Fallout 3 sucks! (descriptions)

Baldur's Gate series didn't have these descriptions (only descriptions of items) and in PsT there was a very limited amount of descriptions outside of dialogues and items.

All Infinity Engine games used hotspots with descriptions to some small extent. Mostly it was used for quest-related stuff (click on an obelisk to get a floating message saying "OMG obalisk is broked u must fix"), but it was also used for flavour, e.g. the graveyard in Nashkel.

I really miss the little pictures that Fallout 1, 2, even Baldur's Gate had of the items in your inventory. I don't want to equip the stupid thing to see what it looks like. I just scroll through my stuff once in a while, trying to find one of my guns, thinking, "Where the hell is my plasma rifle?" Because it's only words...Technically they fucked us over in a reverse order. They got rid of pictures and descriptions so the inventory can only be Text, therefore they can say "We listened to the fans and gave them their text!" I miss reading in game text so much...

You know there is something special about a game that you can play while you eat breakfast. Fallout is one of those games.

Hahaha, very true. I never thought about it that way before.

Oh, but you can play Fallout 3 with mouse. Just hit Q-button on your keyboard and then go, go, go, explore, explore, explore, explore until gameworld will tell you that 'you cannot proced in that direction'...

Descriptions and other FO3 fallouts

I agree that the loss of the descriptions and images lose a lot of the original appeal. As far as Fallout3 goes, it is a good stand alone game. Many hours of play value, compare to bioshock or any other 10 hour title. On its own it is a good game. It however cannot live up to FO2's set standards with that crappy ending, and absolutely no gun upgrades.

Where are my different kinds of Ammo? Where are the multiple opportunities to spread your irradiated seed? Where are the Jimmy Hats and fuzzy dice? I assumed that like FO2s car, the motorcycle parts would lead to some form of faster navigation, not just Oblivion contrived "fast travel". Random encounters? All I got were crappy vendors who randomly died off after I invested in them.

The weapons list is crap, and the weapons and armor choice was usually a no brainer. In fo2 I recall having to make actual choices for things like AP usage and damage and mag capacity. In FO3 the better guns are clearly better, and there is no negotiation either. The different armor is all crap as well. Where is pornstardom or joining a cult, or becoming a prize fighter? Hell, atleast oblviion had several club options. Also dialogue choices were skimped to clearly cock-faced, or clearly jesuit. I cant believe I have so many things I hate about this game which I thoroughly enjoyed... Feel free to add to this list as Im sure there are many more gripes out there.

It's actually almost the opposite for me. In Fallout 3, you can use the magnum, but the ammo is rare enough that you can't rely solely on it. The hunting rifle, while not the most powerful gun, has a good balance between accuracy, damage, and ammo abundancy. Use it in close quarters though, and you find yourself out-armed. The SMG is great close up, but out in the wastes it starts showing it's weakness. Those are just examples, but that's how most of the weapons play out for me. Picking which ones to carry with me becomes an important decision. Will the usefulness of the sniper rifle outweigh its pricey, rare ammo and it's considerable weight?

In Fallout 2 I just got the Bozar and that was the end of my weapon troubles.

Closely related to the lack of descriptions is something that bugs me possibly more and I'm surprised no one else has brought this up yet (or if they have I missed it and I apologize.)

Why bother having a system (VATS) that uses action points if AP use isn't a stat on weapons?

I noticed the other day that for instance I can shoot the silenced 10 MM pistol five times before Im out of AP. I can shoot the combat shotgun three times, the Waser Wifle six. But AP isn't a weapon stat? Why have a feature if you're only going to half ass implement. I want stats to reference damn it.

This calls for a mod.. *grumble grumble*

Yeah, if You exploited and went to ncr right after exiting arroyo...
(IF you even got there becouse of random encounters...and IF u had skill's high enough)

Also bozar was burning down ammo rly fast, so basicly u couldnt use it in everytime u wanted...it was more on special occasions:>

btw
In F3 u can get alien blaster right after tutorial vault...as lvl 2 (120 free ammo, 1 shot - 1 kill)

also deathclaw hand can be obtained in first 15 minutes of game, and its best unarmed weapon untill fisto i think.

Another thing why Fallout 3 sucks big time is that you can't play mouse-only.

Wow, really?

Really?

THAT'S one of your big issues with Fallout 3?

YES, REALLY.

It pisses me off that I have to hold movement keys all the time to move, because there's some serious space to walk through. Pressing Q is also troublesome, because the PC goes forwad *only*. I can't show him where I want to go and he will kindly do as I say, using the shortest route. It's a major fault IMO.

It wasn't an oversight, they've said in the past that they don't believe in text descriptions and that "with today's technology, you can show the player everything so there's no need for text descriptions" (paraphrasing of course).

ya.... someone should tell bethesda that i REALLY miss the information on my 10mm pistol in my inventory, or whats so different between raider sadist armor and battlemaster? all the classic fallouts had that important information that actually often helped you choose what you wanted. like i'd love to know why the chinese pistol in fo3 is so shitty.... sure it may be made in china and thus with inferior steel and parts but its still a god damned c96, one of the top 3 most perfect pistol designs ever concieved.

anyway the diologue/description box in the bottom corner is something to be desired.... i cant tell you how much i laughed when i first came across the flying saucer encounter and the message that popped up was "they really are out there!"....
