I need a build for a small game hunter.

I am a guy who role plays a lot. (Look at user.) I need a build for a small game hunter. Like geckos, mantises, coyotes, and rats. I'm thinking a Varmint Rifle with a scope, knife, and 9mm pistol. Could use the perks, stats, and clothes/armor recommendations. Thank you.

Shotgun is also a reasonable choice for a small game hunter. I mean, this guy hunts rabbits with one:

High survival skill makes sense for obvious reasons. Shotgun surgeon perk if you go with my weapon recommendation above, as well as the Hunter perk again for obvious reasons. For clothes I once played an old hermit character who lived in the abandoned shack near Goodsprings, and since he was mostly shooting local wildlife rather than things that could shoot back, I didnt feel the need to armor him up that much, went with a brahmin skin outfit and a rattan cowboy hat for that backwoods chic.
