I think the Modern world is more scary and dangerous than the Wastelands

Look at Detroit, Michigan and look at Los Angeles at night. Those cities during their prime may as well be a Wasteland. Assuming the crime statistics of our world can apply to the post nuclear world of Fallout. And assuming Detroit never recovered from the recession of 2008. What do you think and how do you feel about the pre nuclear world and modern world being more dangerous than the post nuclear world?

Not an American but surely you aren't fighting every time you merely want to walk somewhere like in Fallout. I mean, if so, I fully understand all the news about American crime and guns... but I always thought it was just exaggerated tales from another land.

In all seriousness though I highly doubt that Detroit could be as bad as the wasteland.

Personally I think the situation with ISIS is very reminiscent of Caesar's Legion....to think when New Vegas first came out, some people criticized that faction for being unrealistically brutal.

The thing is, there are actual places in the world where there is a serious risk of having your home, your possessions, your loved ones, and your life taken away by "raiders", where being sold into slavery is a real possibility, where the social and political structure is a morass of warring, scheming tribes and factions, and conflict over access to resources, water and weapons technology are the defining features of life. In other words, to borrow a line from William Gibson, the post apocalyptic world is already here, it's just not evenly distributed yet.

The US has plenty of problems, but even the worst of our cities are not a "wasteland". The Iraqi Syrian border is a lot more like Fallout than Detroit.

If you're going to argue that the world is a dangerous place, don't use American cities as examples, bad as they might be. There are actual hellholes in the world, and you won't find any of them in a first-world country.
Well, good point. Sorry. Yeah but regarding a place like the Middle East at the moment I think that place would be a lot worse than the wasteland with a strict government and all and ISIS making the problems worse and worse everyday. If I had a choice between the wasteland and the Middle East I would've took the Wasteland. At least there aren't Islamic trying to kill you everywhere you go.

Edit: Just so you know I didn't post this until I saw Steve Austin's comment, so the other comment would be contradictory. It's redundant. I was just picking on Detroit and I know now that the Middle East is the worst at the moment.

Your post was a clear troll attempt, trying to compare civilisation with a nuked out wasteland ALA A Boy And His Dog/The Road/Canticle For Leibowitz.

As others have stated, you KNOW there are other much more dangerous places. Even those bad spots don't have to worry about radiation, dangerous mutations, catastrophic environmental damage, possible global temperature drops, potential ice age, the master, etc.

Doesn't matter if its Detroit or Raqqa, its a HUGE difference compared to Fallout. In Fallout, the entire planet has been wrecked from war and humanities COMPLETE draining of natural resources.

This post is already edging toward politics.

Hmm should this be in general discussion?
