Ia Ia Cthuluh Fhtang my Brothers!

I also like the way they are doing the Interface/Hud whatever. There isn't going to be one! You will be able to tell your injuries by blood splatters on your screen, the way you walk (limping etc) and you head drooping and color from the world around you slowly turning grey. I really think this will help keep the horror atmosphere of the Lovecraft world.

Damn... I saw the first screenies of this in 2003 :P

Still waiting :D

Edit:

And if this game requires circle-strafing Dagon with a machinegun, i'm going to strangle the developers.

I haven't played Call of Cthulhu (the pen and paper RPG, if anyones wondering) in ages, so hopefully this will supply me with my Lovecraft fix. I could just read my books again, but i can't find the damn things.

Anyway, it seems like they've stayed pretty true to the Lovecraft-horror style, my only complaint is that the screenies make it look like the entire game involves shooting hundreds and hundreds of Deep Ones, which is a bit...Doom-y. But I'll remain optimistic :D

Ooh, this looks good.

But yes, I hope to God there's limited gun use in the actual game. This'll be the most disappointing thing ever if there's no actual sense of fear and danger, and I don't mean the flimsy nonsense from Doom 3.

Anyone who's actually interested in reading Lovecraft, I believe it's all been released into public domain: click here.

Actually, when I first heard that the Call Of Cthulhu will be released, I thought that it's gonna be a Lovecraftian style horror adventure. But seeing it as a FPS is not really nice...

Well, there is nothing to do now except hoping that CoC's gameplay and atmosphere would be like Undying's...

Certainly worth reading- great link. If you prefer paper, HPL's been reprinted more times than anyone could count; it should be simple to locate him in any decent library or used book store.

If you're looking to add to your own library, HPL finally has his own Library of America volume out this year, edited by Peter Straub. Here's a well-written review of it:
http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/005/285tmhfa.asp?pg=1

The older Call of Cthulhu paper RPGs from Chaosium, if you look, employed a young Sandy Peterson- before his debut as a video game designer in Doom and DoomII. Chaosium produced some of the best-written game supplements ever made during this period- even if you don't play the game, they're wonderful to read.

And, of course, the definitive Lovecraft search engine is at http://www.cthuugle.com/

Endless Void's got the right idea: let's hope the designers lean towards an Undying style rather than Doom. The system reqs should even allow decent laptop play- perhaps it's best run in an old library, late at night...

Eternal darkness captured Lovecraft perfectly. I hope these guys can do the same.

Very, very cool. Another game to add to my shopping list.

Off topic: did you know that there is a waporware curse associated with all of the Cthulhu games? IIRC 13 Cthulhu games were being made and not one saw the light of day. Brrrrr, creepy. I hope the same fate doesn't befall this one.

The developers probably went insane or something.
I think only 2 have been made... or am i wrong? Shadow of the comet and Prisoner of ice?

Ergh. I think the PnP was just "Call of Cthulhu". POI and SOTC are probably written as adventuresm, but both are PC games too.
I never got Shadow of the Comet to work :(

ps. what the fuck. my father just clambered in dead drunk, growled "I just ate a cookie, you bastard" and shambled off. Repeat, what the fuck.
