I'm finally plugging the last gap in my Fallout series experience.

The_Scoundrel_M

First time out of the vault
Having played every other Fallout game, it seems like now is the time to be getting round to playing FNV. I picked it up in a steam sale with all the DLC included. I briefly considered putting some mods on for my first run, but considering I have all the DLC too; I figured it would be best to just play it vanilla. Is this heresy, or am I just being sensible? As this is the internet I will assume it's both and brace myself for the confusing barrage of abuse and friendliness.

I'm not the fastest of gamers and I don't get a lot of time to play, but I'm hoping to complete it before November for obvious reasons. Does anyone else have a shameful unfinished game in the canon that they're going to play before the big day?

Should anyone be interested, I have been streaming/recording the run and I've knocked together a nice little overlay for my webcam too. I'm The_Scoundrel_M on twitch/youtube.

Use the unofficial patch and maybe JSawyer mod. You don't need anything else for the first playthrough.

Optional: Uncut Wasteland, to restore every object that has been removed by patching for the console version... Many objects had been removed. Really. If you put them side by side, the unmodded version looks empty. (Might also explain why Fallout 3 folks cry about the gameworld in New Vegas.)

/Edit: And darnified UI, because the interface is bullshit on PC.

Yeah pretty much what Lexx said. Project Nevada, Open Freeside and the rest are for the second run forward.

The best Unofficial patch mod is the YUP fixes. Those are pretty good.

I haven't played Tactics at all, Should I?

Lore-wise? No, I don't think it's necessary since it's only semi-canon and the story isn't extremely important in the game. You won't miss out on much.
Gameplay-wise? Yes. At least play through the first mission and see for yourself if you like it. I personally didn't play beyond the first mission because I'm more into actual RPG's but the mechanics and gameplay are pretty good (aside from the A.I. that sometimes makes dumb decisions).

But really, I'd take anything to keep myself occupied until "The Elder Scrolls: Fallout" comes out in November. :wiggle:

If you're unsure about a game, read up about it and decide from there

If you're familar with RTS games, it plays similar to it

As far as canonization goes, only the pivotal moments are canon and everything else is not, so...if you want some info on BoS, I say give it a try

People on here pretty much said it. I do not use Jsawyer or an ENB myself (tried JSawyer mod, hated it). What I can tell you is that you should take your time. No need to rush everywhere, and do nothing at the same time. meet the folks, get to know the factions and see who you like best.

Well I am a fan of Turn Based strategy, not so much Real time strategy.

Tactics is a squad based mission game that only resembles Fallout 1 & 2 ~with smother graphics. The default combat is realtime... However, the game optionally offers an improved [in this case meaning better] version of the turn based combat of the originals; and additionally, you do get to control your whole squad, rather J/A like in that respect.

*Unfortunately though (for me), I've never played the game past the second mission, (and don't even remember what that one was)... Clearly the game as a whole, didn't reel me in hook, line, and sinker, as I've not touched it in years. :(
