I'm reading the FO bible, and already found an oddity...

Wandering the Wastelands
Okay, I downloaded the FObible from the files here at NMA, and for the first time ever, am reading it. Already, less than 10 pages in, I found something that doesn't quite fit with what we've seen in the FO series, and was wondering if you guys could shed some light on it. Here's an excerpt from the FO bible:

The Vault "Grey" (originally Moreau) started out in before his mutation into the Master was Vault 8 and
the Vault you find him in in Fallout 1 was a test/demonstration Vault constructed by Vault-Tec and has no
number (according to Chris Taylor - thanks to Nick Garrott for letting me know about Vault 13's stash on
this stuff). Relevant quote:
Saint_Proverbius: Which vault number was the Master's base?
Chris Taylor: The Master was in the Vault-Tec private vault. This was the demonstration model
built for the federal government, it was also very close to the Vault-Tec headquarters

My question? In FO3, the vault tech headquarters are stationed in Washington DC--you can actually visit the place and get information on the vaults themselves. yet here, it's said that the Master's vault was very close to the Vault Tec HQ--which isn't possible, because VTHQ is in DC, and FO1 took place in California (Northern California, if I'm not mistaken). So what's the deal?

LOL, fair enough I suppose. I'm bound to find more things, I'm sure, as I read all 200+ pages of this thing :D

Just ignore all Fallout 3 lore whenever it contradicts with Fo1 / 2.

Well, I personally just go in this order: Fo1, Fo2, NV, Tactics, Fo3. Best you can go.

I personally consider F1/F2/Bible canon, FoT canon where it doesn't contradict those and the rest horseshit.

I tend to agree with Canakin, mostly because what Fo3 and NV depict is of no interest to me; Fallout interests me the most when it is about the wilderness and darkness of Fallout 1/2, not the fanciness of giant robot killers. Also it's hard to say two backgrounds written a decade after each other can be equal.

One Fallout to rule them all!
On a side note, even Tim Cain has left the FO2 development because they didn't follow his initial plans. I consider only the first concept to be most true.

What he said. ^

My personal is Fo1, FNV, Fo2, Fo3, FoT. I do find "everything post-Fo2 is shit" attitudes amusing, personally.

I don't understand why the FoB is so highly regarded.

It's a single person who happened to play a major role in FO1/FO2 talking endlessly about a canon that was never only his creation, as if it was.

Is it better than Fo3, though? You bet.

Well, he asked many of the old folks to clear up things. So it is not like Avellone was pulling it all out of his arse.

The fact that he happened to play a major role in FO1/FO2 is reason enough to regard it highly. Plus when there was any doubt the man did his homework.

I agree with Formerk on that, plus as Lexx mentioned, he has talked with other devs and stuff; so I will take the FOB to be canon from hereon out.

I am going to post my thoughts on the FOB and how it relates to FO3 later, as I finished reading it last night.

BTW, on another note, I checked the files at NMA...is the one in the downloads the most recent? Has he never updated the FOB to include what is considered canon from FO3?

I don't believe so, but someone else might have. I have heard it mentioned at the Vault.

I largely consider NV canon right after 1 and 2 since It has a lot of titbits that Van buren and the planned F4 were going to have

Many companies do have regional HQ's so it's conceivable for Vault Tec to have more than one. Whenever they release a new game, it creates new "canon", for better or worse.

My 2 cents for best games; original Fallout is still the greatest. You can't beat it's storytelling. Fallout 2 is great and I'm looking forward to Killap finishing the FO2RP. New Vegas is pretty good. FO3 is OK and Tactics bored the hell out me.
