It Wandered In From the Wastes
Someone commenting the "core objective" of FNV..... makes me wonder:

Imagine your real life as a fallout game, what's the "core objective(s)" would be?

Absolutely not finding water chip, your son/father or a platinum chip. "Restoring" civilization for mankind is too big for oneself so I would pass. In a harsh place like that, everyone is grey so I don't see the point to be a goody two shoes.

Shooting and killing is fine, as long as there is a good justification for that, may try not to steal or rape as well but if I am desperate, well...... To be honest, if I do not ended up as a slave, slaver, cannibal or being eaten, I would call that an achievement.

Most likely I would just earn enough caps to build a house, run a farm find a nice chick, just stay alive and get a life.....

Hang on, that FO4........

Depending on which city you are, join the faction which is the more powerfull, make their rules your own code of behavior.

If you are in a shithole, try to join a caravan so you will have other locations to pick. Don't travel alone, don't change city if you are ok with the one you live in.

By "If I am desperate, well" I hope you were referring exclusively to the stealing part.
Well, mostly referring to the stealing bit, but if the rape bit is part of the clan rule/rite of passage, then, well, it's better her than me.

I know I know, that's immoral. But the "beauty" of fallout is this excellent plot device allows all sort of immoral/amoral plots to happen.

That is, if you are good enough to escort a caravan or hold your own. TBH, I would very likely wet myself/soil my pant on my first (or first several) gun fights and would be really lucky if I do not get myself killed. And my first kills would most likely a bad one, even some veteran from Iraq/AFK I met, they did hesitate/panic on their first few kills.

And so, some lone wander/solo survivor who was a school kid/lawyer and never killed a chicken, come out of/woke up from a vault and killing raider, monsters or whatnot like having a cup of joe, that's fxxking bullshit.

Sure, third time's a charm....... only if you can make it that far.

I'd join or start a raider gang and lose my humanity pronto. I'm saying like far too soon to regress into tribalisim. I'd be all mad max as my neighbors would be trying to figure out how to get out of urban areas. I'd be all war paint and prolly shot like some fool.

I'd stick to finding a simple job in a city like California or become a farmer in a town like Modoc. Knowing my luck, I'd be a horrible caravan guard/explorer/courier and would probably get killed within my first fight.

All this would be dependent on the region and culture in said region. Though if I were in Legion lands, I'd probably be dead.

Hmm, and interesting question indeed.

If my existence was in a world like Fallout I could see myself doing some very interesting things.
First I would pick out a suitable location to call my home/base. Then establish a DMZ around it and systematically eradicate all life from it.

From their I would reach out to the local population specifically the down trodden and unwanted. From there I would educate and train them for various tasks and trades. After a while of a practice like this the foundation of my power base would be relatively complete and I can then begin annexing the local region.

I would if I could, change the world to specifically benefit me.

Peace through power :)
