Inconsistencies between FOBOS and FO1&2

Whats a DungoClaw?

I haven't been able to download any videos or sceenshots off Interplay for some 403 Forbbiden Use error so I haven't seen anything on the game other then previews in magazines and some little snips on Gamespy.

If its some sort of crazy mutant beast. Sure, why not? This IS a radiated wasteland... No beast is too mutated or too crazy for that setting... Look at floaters and centaurs. Granted they were made by the Master, they were pretty crazy and mutated

Anyways I don't think having a girl running around in leather is really that game-breaking, or inconsistant to the Fallout universe. From my understanding you start the game not even part of the Brotherhood, just trying to get in. Maybe after you actually get in you get issued some armor to cover up a bit? We don't know yet, nobody has actually played the game.

It's a badly drawn/modeled/rendered DeathClaw, such as the "DeathClaw" in Sellout: Peice of Shit.

Well, at least you admit that you're misinformed....

What a brilant, ingenous mound of {Herve Cean}! I mean, this game may be limited to 50's-esque styles, but we can have any type of mutation we please, even if it goes against what was in the first two games!

But why do that in public? And if you're part of a para-millitary orginization. why not just wear armor so the bullets don't hurt? Unless it's a +1 Thong of Protection, of course. Comon, you know that TEAM CHUCKY is just ding that to sell the game with a slice of moldy old cheesecake!

This is from "The Limey", an Interplay employee (dev on PoS, I think), and should dispel any further need for anyone to say that PoS actually fits in with the FO world. It's in response to a post from Odin regarding the same question.

Odin, yes indeed you can feel justified and proud that you can easily access and corroberate the established timeline and story-flow for Fallout 1 and 2. If further PC Fallout games are created, then they will surely have to adhere to these principles and guidelines.

However. As we have stated more than a few times now, FO:BOS is not a continuation of the PC chronology. It is inspired by, and takes places with a recognisable tangent of the Fallout Universe, but is is a law unto itself. Further console games (should they come to fruition) will have to follow what we lay down with this game.

Hmm, another lazy dev takes the "alternate timeline" strategy to justify their incompetence. "Recognisable tangent", eh?

Well, yes. With all that radiation floating around, I'm sure there'd be all sorts of crazy beasts that mutated, even ones that aren't inspired by 50's Matinee Horror Movies.

What I was saying, is maybe you only wear a thong in the very early levels, before you get in to the Brotherhood. From my understanding, you start off trying to GET IN to the Brotherhood, you're not a member yet. Since armor was a necessity in every Fallout I'm sure Miss Dominatrix will have to cover up sooner or later.

Again though, as for the setting; we'll just have to wait and see to see what they totally fuck up and whats done right. Really we can't list any inconsistancies besides DungoClaws and the BOS being in Texas.

The reason the BOS is in Texas could be easily explainable, the could be advanced scouts, they could be ect. ect. I'm not suprised that they've made the DungloClaws, since they've looked different in all the incarnations of the series (the RPG, the Squad-Based Tactical, and now the Hack-n-Slash). I wonder what they'll look like in Fallout 3?

So is that our only 2 inconsistancies that we know of so far?

No, no, there are way more then I can list:

1. Ghostbusters lasers.
2. Mideval-looking super-orcs
3. Ghouls that are way too much like zombies.
4. Your squad has a ghoul that can cast spells.
5. Lightning Mazes!
6. Raider Matrons.

Now, why are thos six little examples inconsistent?

Answer:

1. Because the lasers were little red bolts, not blue beams that look like magic spells. This is, however, almost a minor detail.
2. The mutants in Fallout looked more like Stan Lee's The Hulk, not like fantasy creatures.
3. The Ghouls are really just zombie in appearance; they are insane, but only in that "disillusioned 180-odd years old mutated eccentric" manner, not in a "brain-eating undead" sort of manner.
4. Physics were rare in the Fallout Series, and the Master was only physic because of mutation. And the Brotherhood is a bit, shall we say, discriminatory against mutants.
5. What an uninspired little aspect of design! Besides, in a wasteland where power is a rare luxury, why not just make an analog maze. Even better; why make a maze at all? You could just build a huge corridor of booby-traps and stuff if you wanted to protect something, rather then waste electricty?
6. Raiders would just kiddnap ans enslave women in underdefended vilages (or get them from "tribute payments" or something) if they were sexualy frustrated, not submit to some whore who offers "sex for obedience". Please.

I haven't gotten to see what the Supermutants look like in BOS... But they kind of looked like vikings and the such in Tactics. I think its more artistic liscensing on the part of the artists, like "DungloClaws." I really don't care what it looks like, as long as I know what it is. I mean, we could say its inconsistant because there aren't fifty skinny guys with a bad case of scoliosis with names like "Jet Addict..." With all the radiation, I'm sure every person in the universe has some sort of difference.

There where some cannibalistic Ghouls, though. I think a random encounter around both the Necropolis and Gecko had "Ghoul Cannibals" or something like that, and their floaty text had them saying things like they wanted to eat you. Of course, we don't know that the ghouls are trying to eat your brains as much as they're trying to choke you (thats why they've got their arms out like zombies  )

I haven't heard about the magic wielding Ghoul. I agree, that sounds really stupid. Of course though, being as Fallout doesn't really adhere to real life... Just because we haven't seen any magic in the first 2 Fallouts doesn't mean its not there (though I don't see why they'd add magic... maybe to attract fantasy gamers who liked BG: DA?) I'll hold my opinions for when I see it in action, but for the most part I think the idea of magic in Fallout is stupid. Thats not going to keep me from playing, though.

I haven't seen the maze, either. I really hate mazes, I get stuck at that maze in the Enclave everytime I play FO2. But maybe its at some crazy underground bunker, or some ancient military storehouse or something? There were all kinds of electric barriers in Fallout Tactics, and we had those yellow and red force-field doors in FO1 & 2.

All these inconsistancies are kind of petty though; Like, if the game is fun, I'm going to play it. I'm not going to not buy it and play it just because the lasers aren't little red lines. Of course, if the GAMEPLAY sucks, I won't play it.

Honestly though, this thread is kind of pre-emptive. We don't know whats really inconsistan except for things we've seen in a couple screenshots. The devs on the dev board said that it isn't as far-fetched and inconsistant as everyone thinks, so lets just hope so. I'm planning on buying the game, and I've got a pretty good working knowledge of the Fallout universe, so when it comes out I'll list the inconsistances to the universe.
