The life and times of Jennifer Noland, QA tester.
How did you get into the industry? Do you have any tips for breaking in?

I was actually told the company was looking to hire QA interns by my uncle and aunt — Steven and Christiane Meister — who both work at Bethesda. At the time, I was working in retail and hating every day of it. I immediately applied; I didn’t know what to expect, having never working in the gaming industry before, but I knew I had an addiction to video games and would love to have a hand in helping to make them, even just testing to make sure that they work properly. As luck would have it, I got the job and I quit my retail job as quickly as I could. I know — it’s not a very exciting story, but believe me, I was very happy to leave retail!

As for advice to getting in the industry — I am so awful with these kinds of questions, I never really know what to say, especially something that hasn’t been said already in the other interviews. I’d say be enthusiastic and passionate about the job. I think this is something very encouraging for your potential employers to see — of course they would want to hire someone who is going to love what they do!
OH GOD COULD THIS GET ANY DULLER?!

PS: oh yeah, and no question about Fallout-playing experience. What's up, guys? Is it an intimidating question? Too kung fu?

:o SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!...don't ever say things like that..."They" might hear you.

Is this a joke? I'm starting the believe that Bethesda knows NMA reads their blogs more than bethfans do, and are plotting to have us all initiate in ritual suicide or something.

Well we know why videogames suck in 2008. Because all you need to do to get into the industry is KNOW SOMEBODY

Is it my impression or are you becoming a bit malcontent BN? :P

Anyway, I agree, is this interview dull.

Why do we care about this on someone as insignificant as this irrelevant QA drone?

anyway, who exactly is supposed to read this and find it interesting?

and on a sidenote, perhaps they should employ people because of their skills sometimes...

And he was such a nice person :) Damn you Bethesda you ruined another life :x

On the subject: I really don't have strength to read any of the interviews that Bethesda puts online. There is no point to it. They are trying to get closer with the fans, so we would know who we're dealing with. I think we already know too much about them and we don't need more false courtesy.

I'm now convinced most of the FO3 developers are bunch of fresh graduated yuppies who have zero idea of how to make a game :o

QA testers don't really need to know how to do anything, ziob.

But yeah, Bethesda sometimes likes to say "most people who worked on Morrowind worked on Oblivion", but they forget to mention they added about 50 people who can't find their dicks in the dark, and the same thing applies to Fallout 3.

We care more about that than we care about pretty much any other question that was asked to him... Besides, it's tradition that we ALWAYS refer to the forbidden question in any inside the vault we newspost.

It would be strange if a woman could find her dick in the dark. Disturbing.

I wonder if they had QA testers while working on oblivion. Because if yes, then it doesn't say much.
