In a new issue of Inside the Vault, the Bethesda Blog interviews Bethesda lead artist Josh Jones:
What’s your job at Bethesda?

Lead Character Artist. I split my time between meetings and animation work. I also work a great deal with character rigging and other technical aspects of character art production.

(...)

Ever play the Fallout games?

No.
Link: Inside the Vault - Josh Jones.

"...flaws and inadequacies that 99% of people will never notice."... I think that number should be changed ...

he looks really tired. Character rigging sounds boring as hell. His advice for getting into the industry is the best yet however.

[99% of the people won't notice the flaws] in his artwork? I hope so.

Lead Character Artist... and has never played Fallout?

Fallout 1 really aint that long. his professionalism should have motivated him enough to try it out... even with the friggin' help of Per's guides if needed.

That's all I need to know.
"Hey we're Fallour fans", right Todd?

Come on...

It's still better than "rich" response like "Nope, but I'll change it ASAP!!", which is very fashionable and very Bethesdish. :)

He has never played Fallouts, OK, but at least he's not looking for some silly excuses.

Hey, I don't blame him for not playing Fallout. In fact, I think that if someone doesn't want to play a game then ok- don't. He probably didn't have a choice to work on FO3 if he wanted to keep his job. But for the hell of it, he's working on Fallout 3 but doesn't really know what's Fallout about.
As I said, I don't blame him for working on FO3. I blame bethesda for using people that haven't played Fallout to work on Fallout 3.
It was probably so hard to try and hire Sawyer, Cain and Boyarsky, huh?

Jesus christ, give these people some daylight.. I thought I was pale! Sunlight is healthy in the right doses, someone tell that to human ressources or whatever

If he's responsible for the character animations in Oblivion/Morrowind, I have to say I'm not too enthused. Character animations were by far the weakest point (graphically speaking) in both those games. Very stiff, unnatural, and otherwise just not well done.

Not too much of a surprise there. I think when Todd and Pete say Bethesda is such a fan of Fallout, they're speaking only for themselves (and considering what super fans they are what with how much of the original games they seem to actually dislike...). Not many of the team members seem to really know much about it, and those that do only know through research done after the project started.

Josh: Was I supposed to lie to them?
Todd: No shit, of course!
Josh: What if they asked me a question about a vault or something
Todd: You could have handled it, all you say is something about a dweller and the number 13, you idjit. You need more points in your speech skill.
Josh: What's that?
Pete: Way to be honest, Josh! :ok:

I like how Mr Jone's whiteboard says "Hair/Hats" like its something very important to remember while he is drawing up new animations. That sucks honestly! It is so sad that's apparently what sells now. Second Life style.

Pip, you idjit. If beth devs don't know the answer they start talking about fpp and IMMERSHUN.
*sigh*
What I saw here, is "ZOMG DOOM" over the ARTIST having not played Fallout. So what? That doesn't mean he wasn't shown it, that doesn't mean he knows nothing of it.
We don't know if he even saw Fallout - 0 points
We know he hasn't played Fallout- -1 point
It's bad in either case big guy.

To hire these "old hands" like Cain, there must be interest on both sides, and this is slightly improbable. They might be still frustrated with IPLY, and/or Beth just too proud to ship them. People like J.E. Sawyer might want to direct the development much more closely to FO1/2, implement some Van Buren elements and so on, what Bethesda might refuse at all (just a small conspirative theory).

Wow, sounds like he's done his research

Seriously, he's the LEAD CHARACTER DESIGNER?

This douche bag couldn't have even played the games? At least try the bleedin' DEMO... Something? What is he using, the cover art and a few random screenshots as research? What a clown.
