Bethesda's Blog is featuring another "Inside The Vault" episode. This time, they interviewed environment artist Megan Sawyer.

What’s your job at Bethesda?

I’m an environment artist. I work on everything from houses tolandscape textures. In Oblivion, I made the houses of Cheydinhal, sculpted the landscape around the whole city, created the bridges and cattails, and made the Dark Brotherhood entry door. I also created the landscape textures and overall feel of the Blackwood swamp region. Currently on Fallout I’ve worked on a few buildings, an area for the main quest, a lot of clutter, and am now working on landscape.

At night I fight crime!

Don't let her looks fool you, she make horrible game!

I’ve never finished either one though — not for lack of interest, I’m
just very very bad at finishing games and very rarely do so. I’ve watched all of the speed runs, read everything I can on Fallout, studied screenshots, and watched every YouTube Fallout game play video I can.

HEATHEN!

Ever play the Fallout games?

Oddly, I never played them before we got the Fallout 3 license. I did acquire the games as soon as we got the license, and man, I love all the stuff they came with. That little booklet and everything is awesome. I’m such a sucker for games that come with cool stuff. I’ve never finished either one though — not for lack of interest, I’m

...And when Leonard Boyarsky asks whether he can work as an Artist at bethesda they rebuff him and who they hire instead of him ?someone like this dork who hasnt even finished the damn game and isnt familiar with the fallout universe and enjoys playing Fuckemon Dickachu Diamond !

What are you hobbies and interests?

My favorite hobby is going to concerts and club nights. I like older goth and industrial music,

hahahaha !!!
there you have it then ...your Typical Goth Dork !

How about someone make a Youtube fallout video directed to Bethsoft?

"Instructional video for Bethsoft employees working on Fallout"

That's not really fair, since she was already working there before they got the Fallout license, apparently.

Fair ?!
You Hire a new ARTIST for a different game and a different enviroment if it is neccisery.
when it comes to a game series like fallout who would you give the privilege to ?!!
someone who has worked on the series from the beginning or someone who isn't even familiar with the series ?
when it comes to stuff like game atmosphere, dialogs and artworks ,Leonard boyarsky would be somthing like Fallouts Soul & humor.

well we're moving on to a different project .. but i dont wanna hire new people .. how about the coffe boy / secretary .. maybe he could ... hmmm .. be manager or designer or smth ...

below the belt i know ...

Damn, looks like I am banned by beth's sisies and their blog is not for me anymore.
God Damn!
Anyway, isn't that stupid, making a mature-rated game and by some inexplicable twist of fate, be doomed to wet underwear/ fall down unconsciousness every time if someone typed "duck" or "fick"?

No, you're bashing Bethesda for not firing Megan Sawyer. Which is a pretty retarded argument. Their not hiring Boyarsky is completely seperate from their not firing Megan Sawyer.
If you're going to bash, at least do it somewhat intelligently, this is just stupid.

I didn't meant that they should fire Megan Sawyer so boyarsky could come and sit behind her Desk .I meant when it comes to such an important person like Boyarsky they should fire someone like Megan Sawyer or Mr. or Mrs. X IF it is neccisery.
and it is not about being fair. You get hired somewhere if you are capable of doing something they ask you ,if not then they can choose someone that is capable of doing that certain thing you can't do.

So you blew up in a tangent screaming at Bethesda in a completely retarded manner.
Besides, here's exactly what you said:
"...And when Leonard Boyarsky asks whether he can work as an Artist at bethesda they rebuff him and who they hire instead of him ?"
That is pretty much literally 'they hired her instead of him! Evil Bethesda!!!!'

Yes, and this has *what* exactly to do with Sawyer here? That's right, absolutely dickshit.
I don't know if she's capable, but the environment graphics are really among the better things we've seen and honestly, not everyone you hire or keep on the team needs to have played Fallout or get fired.
Besides, she obviously familiarised herself with the part of the setting that's relevant to her: the environment.

Well, honestly, if I'd have to judge from the materials I have seen in the last few months, I'd say the environment could be much better. However, it could be much worse too. Some parts fit nice, others stand out like shit in a punch bowl.

Shortly: Yes, it's post-apocalyptic. No, it doesn't look 'fallouty' enough, it could be better. Personally, I'd give it 5.5/10 for now.

Personally I think that the people who worked on the environments in Oblivion did an outstanding job, especially the wilderness. While I find the gameplay kinda lacking, there were a few times while running around in the wilderness where I could literally smell the nature. And that's not even me "virtua LARPING" to use a Codex phrase.
The wilderness in Oblivion is some of the best I've seen in that area.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether they can create PA landscapes, but that's one of few areas where I have faith in Bethesda when it comes to Fallout 3.

So you're just assuming that she isn't "capable of doing something they ask [her] to do"? I'm think the texturz and graphix will all look great in this game.

Gameplay is another story.

Not to mention that Megan is more or less in a peon role. Environmental artist isn't exactly a lucrative design job. Boyarsky, as far as I know, was a lead artist and director and was involved in dialog and quest design and animation.

Two very different roles those are.

thats right drama queen ,and this what you said :

at least i mean someone LIKE sawyer, not exactly her .

I don't know if she's capable, but the environment graphics are really among the better things we've seen and honestly, not everyone you hire or keep on the team needs to have played Fallout or get fired.
It is not important if it looks "nice" ,it is important whether it fits into a fallout game or not !

Besides, she obviously familiarised herself with the part of the setting that's relevant to her: the environment.
ahhhh, so you know her personally .pardon me for my "retarded" behavior !!!

i agree ,but boyarsky did a lot of texture mapping, animating and modelling and you cant really list everything he did .
and as a lead artist you do have an important role on stuff like enviroments and such .

No need for the drama, yeah it's a shame they didn't get the old devs on board, but that doesn't mean they should have kicked anyone out to do it.

Let's take this as a fair compromise o.k.?

It's almost as if she's just an experienced artists who has only given the source material a cursory glance and gotten 'post-apocolyptic' out of it, or something.

But really, she's just an artist. Faults as to the look of the whole world lie with the art director who defines the style of the world, approves the character designs (behemoth) and all of Megan's and the other artists' output.

Oh, don't try to be an idiot. You were railing specifically against Sawyer, calling her a dork as well. If you mean to say something, then say *that* and not something else.

No shit, sherlock. What do you think I was talking about there? Yeesh.

Vault 13 said:

No, I don't. What I do know, is what she claims in that interview. Which includes playing through the game and looking up a lot of graphics and movies which gives you a lot of information about the environment in the game.
So, yes, your point is still retarded.

Yet an environment artist *only* does environment art.
